Understanding Your Academic Progress

Grade Calculation Example

Here’s how your final grade is calculated:
1

Individual Activity Scores

You complete various activities throughout the period:
ActivityScoreMax PointsWeight
Quiz 18510010%
Quiz 29010010%
Homework Avg8810015%
Project9210025%
Final Exam8710040%
2

Weighted Calculation

Each score is multiplied by its weight:
(85 × 0.10) + (90 × 0.10) + (88 × 0.15) +
(92 × 0.25) + (87 × 0.40) = 88.3
3

Scale Conversion

The 88.3 percentage is converted to your school’s scale. If your school uses 1.0-5.0:
88.3% → 4.4 (Alto)
4

Performance Level

Your score determines your performance level:
  • 4.4 falls in the “Alto” range (4.0-4.5)
  • This is strong performance, above basic

Tracking Progress Over Time

As activities are graded:
  • Watch your average rise or fall
  • See impact of each assignment
  • Calculate what you need on remaining work

Tips for Success

Weekly grade checks help you:
  • Catch errors early (contact teacher if you see a mistake)
  • Stay aware of your standing
  • Know when you’re at risk
  • Plan study time effectively
  • Celebrate improvements
Don’t wait for report cards to learn about problems!
Pay attention to what counts most:
  • If exams are 40%, prioritize exam preparation
  • If participation is 20%, engage in class discussions
  • If homework is only 10%, don’t stress over every assignment
Work smarter by focusing on high-weight activities.
Attendance affects your grades:
  • Missing class means missing instruction
  • Some schools factor attendance into final grades
  • Chronic absence may prevent you from passing
  • Colleges look at attendance records
If you must be absent, get notes from classmates and ask teachers about missed work.
Stay informed to avoid surprises:
  • Check announcements daily
  • Note important dates immediately
  • Read teacher updates about assignments
  • Don’t miss school event opportunities
When you see your grade dropping:
  • Talk to your teacher about struggling topics
  • Ask about extra credit opportunities
  • Request tutoring or study resources
  • Form study groups with classmates
  • Tell your parents so they can support you
Waiting until the end of the period makes it harder to recover.

Common Questions

Several reasons:
  1. Not yet graded - Teacher hasn’t entered scores yet
  2. Recently submitted - Allow 1-2 weeks for grading
  3. You didn’t submit - Check if you completed the work
  4. Technical issue - Rare, but ask teacher if concerned
If it’s been more than 2 weeks, politely ask your teacher about the status.
Follow these steps:
  1. Review the activity details - Check what was expected
  2. Check your submitted work - Verify it was your best effort
  3. Read teacher comments - Often explains the grade
  4. Calculate manually - Ensure it matches rubric
  5. Talk to your teacher - Politely ask for clarification
  6. If genuinely wrong - Teacher can correct errors
Approach respectfully and be open to the possibility that the grade is fair.
Typically yes, but depends on school configuration:
  • Most schools keep historical records accessible
  • You may see grades from all your enrolled years
  • Useful for tracking long-term progress
  • Important for college applications
If you can’t access old grades, ask your coordinator or school secretary.
Attendance errors can happen:
  1. Teacher mistake - Tell teacher immediately so they can correct
  2. Late arrival - You may have been marked absent before arriving
  3. Left early - Partial day may show as absent
  4. Wrong class period - Error in another teacher’s record
Always report attendance errors the same day if possible.
Yes, if they have guardian access:
  • Parents with system login can view your grades
  • They see the same information you see
  • They receive notifications about grade updates
  • They can access your attendance records
This promotes family involvement in your education.

What You Cannot Do

Cannot modify your grades - Only teachers can enter and change grades.
Cannot change your attendance - Only teachers record attendance. Report errors to your teacher.
Cannot view other students’ grades - Privacy rules prevent access to classmates’ academic records.
Cannot send messages - Student accounts are typically read-only for communications. Speak to teachers or staff in person.
Cannot update your profile - Personal information changes must go through the school secretary.
