HackTricks Values

These are the core values of the HackTricks Project:
  • Give FREE access to EDUCATIONAL hacking resources to ALL of the Internet. Hacking is about learning, and learning should be as free as possible. The purpose of this book is to serve as a comprehensive educational resource.
  • STORE awesome hacking techniques published by the community, giving ORIGINAL AUTHORS all the credits. We don’t want credit from other people — we just want to store cool tricks for everyone. We also write our own researches in HackTricks. In several cases we will just write in HackTricks a summary of the important parts of the technique and will encourage the reader to visit the original post for more details.
  • ORGANIZE all hacking techniques so the content is MORE ACCESSIBLE. The HackTricks team has dedicated thousands of hours for free, only to organize content so people can learn faster.

Yes, you can — but don’t forget to mention the specific link(s) where the content was taken from.If you need a BibTeX citation, use something like:
@misc{hacktricks-bibtexing,
  author = {"HackTricks Team" or the Author name of the specific page},
  title = {Title of the Specific Page},
  year = {Year of Last Update},
  url = {\url{https://book.hacktricks.wiki/specific-page}},
}
We would rather you did not. That is not going to benefit anyone since all the content is already publicly available in the official HackTricks books for free.If you fear it will disappear, just fork it on GitHub or download it — it is already free.
The first HackTricks value is to offer FREE hacking educational resources to ALL the world. The team has dedicated thousands of hours to offer this content, again, for FREE.Sponsors exist because we want to offer the community the possibility of appreciating our work if they wish. Therefore, we offer people the option to donate via GitHub Sponsors and allow relevant cybersecurity companies to sponsor HackTricks with some ads placed where they are visible but do not disturb the learning process.HackTricks is not made for commercial purposes.
We are very sorry. This should not have happened. Please let us know via GitHub issues, Twitter, or Discord with the link to the HackTricks page and the link to your blog, and we will check it and add the reference ASAP.
Note that having links to your page in HackTricks:
  • Improves your SEO
  • The content gets translated into more than 15 languages, making it accessible to more people
  • HackTricks encourages people to check your page (many authors report increased visits after a page appears in HackTricks)
However, if you still want the content of your blog removed from HackTricks, just let us know and we will remove every link to your blog and any content based on it.
We always give original authors all the credits. If you find a page with copy-pasted content without a source referenced, let us know and we will either remove it, add the link before the text, or rewrite it adding the link.
