No Accelerometer Detected
Previously Working Iron
If your iron was previously working:- Check currently open and recently closed issues for similar reports
- Try rolling back to an earlier firmware release to test if this is a new bug
- If no existing issues found, open a new issue with details
New Iron
For a new iron not detecting accelerometer:- Check existing issues first
- Vendor may have changed accelerometer model without warning (has happened before)
- Support should come shortly once identified
- Slim chance accelerometer is DOA and needs replacement
This warning will only be shown the first few times until settings are reset.
No USB-PD IC Detected
This error generally means:- Firmware issue has occurred, or
- FUSB302 chip not responding as expected
Troubleshooting Steps
- Roll back firmware: Try earlier release to confirm if issue persists
- Contact support: If problem continues, device may need repair
- Use seller protection/support if available
- Attempt IC replacement yourself if warranty expired
- Hardware info: Both TS80P and Pinecil use FUSB302 chip
This warning will only be shown the first few times until settings are reset.
No Tip Detected
If tip is not being detected, the heater element inside has likely been damaged.Common Causes
- Over-temperature damage
- Physical damage from being dropped
- Manufacturing defect
Diagnosis
Measure resistance across tip contacts using multimeter:- Expected: 4-10 ohms
- Problem: Higher than 10 ohms generally indicates damaged heater coil
Tip Resistance Reference
- 6.2Ω: Pine64 short tip
- 8.0Ω: TS100/Pinecil long tip
- 4.5Ω: TS80(P)
Iron Won’t Heat Up & Shows High Temperature
This issue is related to cold junction compensation temperature sensor problems.Diagnosis
Check the Rtip and CHan numbers in Debug Menu:- Symptom: Extremely high CHan value
- Cause: Problem with cold junction compensation temperature sensor
Pinecil V1 Specific
Inspect area near U10 (TMP36 sensor):- Visual inspection of U10 solder joints
- Attempt to reflow/resolder TMP36 chip
- May correct weak solder joint issue
Firmware Version Note
If worked on older firmware but not on 2.16+:- Likely cause: Weak solder joints
- Reason: Newer firmware runs ADC faster for tighter temperature control
- Normally: TMP36 output is powerful enough to keep up
- Problem: Weak or cold solder joint can’t handle faster ADC sampling
Additional Checks
If reflowing temperature sensor doesn’t resolve issue:- Inspect pins on main MCU
- Try gently squeezing pins to board while watching CHan value
- May indicate weak MCU connection
Other Devices
For non-Pinecil devices:- Follow same logic
- Locate temperature sensor on your specific device
- Check schematics for sensor location
- Inspect and reflow solder joints
General Troubleshooting Tips
Before Opening Issue
- Search existing issues: Problem may already be documented
- Test older firmware: Helps determine if regression or hardware fault
- Check hardware: Visual inspection for obvious damage
- Verify power source: Ensure adequate voltage/current for your device
- Read documentation: Review relevant docs for your hardware
Information to Provide
When opening an issue, include:- Device model: Exact iron model (TS100, Pinecil V2, etc.)
- Firmware version: Current and previously working versions
- Power source: Charger/power bank model and specifications
- Debug readings: Rtip, CHan, other relevant debug values
- Steps to reproduce: What you were doing when issue occurred
- Photos: Clear images of issue or hardware if relevant
Warranty & Repairs
- Under warranty: Contact seller/manufacturer first
- Out of warranty: Community can help with DIY repairs
- Replacement parts: FUSB302, accelerometers, and other ICs available from electronics suppliers
- Schematics: Available for Pinecil and S60; helps with repairs
