Configure when and how Praydo notifies you about upcoming prayer times. This includes notification timing and adhan (call to prayer) settings.

Notification Timing

Set how many minutes before each prayer time you want to receive a notification reminder.
minutes
number
default:"5"
Minutes before prayer time to show notification.Available Options:
  • 5 minutes
  • 10 minutes
  • 15 minutes
  • 20 minutes
  • 25 minutes
  • 30 minutes
This setting applies to all enabled prayer notifications.

How Notifications Work

Praydo provides two types of alerts:
  1. Pre-prayer Notification: A reminder shown X minutes before the prayer time (configurable)
  2. Adhan at Prayer Time: The call to prayer played exactly at the prayer time (if enabled)

Example Timeline

If Maghrib is at 6:15 PM and notifications are set to 10 minutes:
  • 6:05 PM: Notification appears - “Maghrib prayer in 10 minutes”
  • 6:15 PM: Adhan plays (if enabled for Maghrib in Prayer Settings)

Configuring Alert Settings

To configure notification timing:
  1. Open Settings from the main menu
  2. Navigate to the Notifications tab
  3. Select your preferred notification time from the dropdown:
    • 5 Minutes
    • 10 Minutes
    • 15 Minutes
    • 20 Minutes
    • 25 Minutes
    • 30 Minutes
  4. Changes are saved automatically
The notification timing setting applies globally to all prayers that have adhan enabled. Individual per-prayer timing is not currently supported.

Enabling/Disabling Adhan

To control which prayers trigger the adhan:
  1. Open Settings from the main menu
  2. Navigate to the Prayer Times tab
  3. Under Play Adhan At, check the prayers where you want adhan to play:
    • Fajr
    • Dhuhr
    • Asr
    • Maghrib
    • Isha
You must enable adhan for at least one prayer in the Prayer Times settings for notifications to appear.

Common Configuration Scenarios

Perfect for those who want to be reminded shortly before each prayer.Settings:
  • Notification time: 5 minutes
  • Enable adhan for: All prayers (Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha)
Result: You’ll receive a notification 5 minutes before each prayer, then hear the adhan at the exact prayer time.
Ideal for those who want reminders only for the most time-sensitive prayers.Settings:
  • Notification time: 15 minutes
  • Enable adhan for: Fajr and Maghrib only
Result: You’ll receive notifications 15 minutes before Fajr and Maghrib, with adhan at the prayer time.
Helpful when you need extra time to prepare for prayer during busy schedules.Settings:
  • Notification time: 30 minutes
  • Enable adhan for: All prayers
Result: You’ll get a half-hour heads-up before each prayer, giving you time to wrap up work or other activities.
If you only want reminder notifications without the adhan sound.Settings:
  • Notification time: 10 minutes (or your preference)
  • Enable adhan for: None (disable all in Prayer Times settings)
Result: You’ll see notifications but won’t hear the adhan.

System Notifications

Praydo uses your system’s notification system to display alerts:
  • Windows: Toast notifications in the system tray
  • macOS: Notification Center alerts
  • Linux: Desktop notifications via DBus
Ensure that Praydo has notification permissions enabled in your system settings, otherwise you may not receive prayer time alerts.

Notification Permissions

To ensure you receive notifications:

Windows

  1. Open Settings > System > Notifications
  2. Find Praydo in the app list
  3. Enable notifications

macOS

  1. Open System Settings > Notifications
  2. Find Praydo in the app list
  3. Set notification style to “Alerts” or “Banners”
  4. Enable sound if desired

Linux

  1. Notification permissions vary by desktop environment
  2. Most Linux distributions allow notifications by default
  3. Check your desktop environment’s notification settings if alerts aren’t appearing

Autostart Integration

For notifications to work when your computer starts, enable autostart in the General Settings:
  1. Open Settings > General tab
  2. Enable Autostart at system startup
  3. Praydo will launch automatically and notifications will work from system startup
Combine autostart with notification settings to ensure you never miss a prayer time, even right after booting your computer.

Data Storage

Alert settings are stored locally using Tauri’s store plugin:
  • Storage Key: alert and timeRemaining
  • Save Strategy: Debounced (saved 1 second after changes)
  • Persistence: Settings persist across app restarts
All alert settings are saved automatically. You don’t need to click a “Save” button - changes take effect immediately and are persisted in the background.

Troubleshooting

Possible causes:
  1. System notifications are disabled for Praydo
  2. No prayers have adhan enabled in Prayer Times settings
  3. Focus Assist (Windows) or Do Not Disturb (macOS) is active
Solutions:
  1. Check system notification permissions
  2. Verify at least one prayer has adhan enabled
  3. Adjust Do Not Disturb settings to allow Praydo notifications
Possible causes:
  1. No prayers selected in “Play Adhan At” settings
  2. System volume is muted
  3. Audio permissions not granted to Praydo
Solutions:
  1. Enable adhan for desired prayers in Prayer Times settings
  2. Check system volume settings
  3. Verify audio permissions in system settings
Possible causes:
  1. Notification timing not saved properly
  2. System clock is incorrect
  3. Location or calculation method is wrong
Solutions:
  1. Re-select notification timing and wait for auto-save (1 second)
  2. Verify system clock is accurate
  3. Check location and calculation method settings
