Our Standards

All participation in the Apache Arrow project—including but not limited to contributions to code, documentation, mailing lists, issue trackers, community forums, conferences, and other project-related activities—is governed by the Apache Software Foundation Code of Conduct.

ASF Code of Conduct

Apache Arrow follows the Code of Conduct for The Apache Software Foundation. The ASF Code of Conduct is based on treating all people with respect and dignity. It applies to all “collaborative spaces”, which include:
  • Mailing lists and archived discussions
  • Issue trackers (GitHub Issues, JIRA)
  • Pull requests and code reviews
  • Community forums and chat channels
  • Conferences, meetups, and other events
  • Social media interactions related to the project
  • Private correspondence related to project business

Expected Behavior

We expect all community members to:
  • Be respectful and considerate in all interactions
  • Be collaborative and work together to resolve disagreements constructively
  • Be mindful of your words and actions and their impact on others
  • Assume good faith - presume that people are trying to contribute positively
  • Be inclusive - welcome and support people of all backgrounds and identities
  • Give and receive feedback gracefully - focus on the technical merits

Unacceptable Behavior

Unacceptable behavior includes but is not limited to:
  • Harassment, intimidation, or discrimination in any form
  • Offensive, derogatory, or discriminatory comments
  • Personal or political attacks
  • Public or private harassment
  • Publishing others’ private information without permission
  • Sexual language and imagery
  • Trolling, insulting comments, or personal attacks
  • Other conduct that could reasonably be considered inappropriate in a professional setting

Reporting Issues

If you experience or witness unacceptable behavior, or have any concerns about conduct within the Apache Arrow community, please report it to the Apache Software Foundation.

How to Report

You can report issues through:
  • Project PMC - Contact the Apache Arrow PMC (Project Management Committee)
  • ASF Code of Conduct Committee - For serious violations or if you’re uncomfortable contacting the project PMC directly
For more information on reporting and the ASF’s process for handling reports, see the ASF Code of Conduct reporting guidelines. All reports will be handled with discretion and confidentiality.

Enforcement

Project maintainers and the ASF Code of Conduct Committee are responsible for clarifying and enforcing standards of acceptable behavior. They will take appropriate and fair corrective action in response to any instances of unacceptable behavior. Actions may include:
  • Warning the offender
  • Temporary or permanent ban from project spaces
  • Reporting to the ASF for further action
  • Other actions as deemed appropriate

Scope

This Code of Conduct applies to all Apache Arrow project spaces and also applies when an individual is representing the project or its community in public spaces. Examples include using an official project email address, posting via official social media accounts, or acting as an appointed representative at events.

Attribution

The Apache Arrow project follows the Apache Software Foundation Code of Conduct, which is based on the Contributor Covenant.
