Overview

The OpenEyes dashboard serves as your central hub for accessing patient information, worklists, and clinical workflows. It provides quick access to active patients and key metrics for your clinical practice.
The dashboard is role-based and displays different information depending on your user permissions (surgeon, clinician, or administrator).

Dashboard Layout

The main dashboard displays:

Active Worklists

View patients scheduled for today’s clinics and procedures

Recent Patients

Quick access to recently viewed patient records

Pending Tasks

Outstanding clinical tasks requiring your attention

Quick Actions

Fast access to common workflows like adding new patients or events

Key Dashboard Features

The global search bar allows you to find patients quickly:
  • Hospital Number: Enter the patient’s hospital identifier
  • NHS Number: Search by national health service number
  • Name and DOB: Search using patient name and date of birth
  • Local Identifiers: Use institution-specific identifiers
The search performs real-time lookups and will display results as you type. If multiple matches are found, you’ll see a results page to select the correct patient.

The dashboard respects user permissions:

Dashboard Widgets

Firm Selection

Select your active clinical team (firm) to filter the dashboard view:
  1. Click the firm selector in the header
  2. Choose from your assigned firms
  3. Dashboard updates to show relevant patients and worklists
You must select a firm before accessing most clinical features. If no firm is selected, you’ll be prompted to choose one.

Site Selection

For multi-site institutions:
  • Select your current clinical site
  • Dashboard filters patients and worklists by site
  • Site selection persists across sessions

Quick Actions

Add New Event

From the dashboard, quickly create clinical events:
  1. Search for the patient
  2. Navigate to their summary page
  3. Click Add Event
  4. Select the event type (examination, prescription, etc.)

View Recent Activity

The dashboard tracks:
  • Recently viewed patients
  • Recent events created
  • Recent correspondence sent
  • Recent clinical updates

OEscape Visualization

For glaucoma patients, the dashboard provides access to OEscape:
  • Visual timeline of patient clinical data
  • IOP (Intraocular Pressure) trends
  • CCT (Central Corneal Thickness) measurements
  • Visual field progression
  • Medication history
OEscape provides subspecialty-specific visualizations. Access it from a patient’s record when viewing glaucoma or relevant subspecialty episodes.

Dashboard Customization

User Preferences

Customize your dashboard experience:
  • Default Landing Page: Set your preferred starting view
  • Worklist Filters: Save commonly used filter combinations
  • Display Settings: Configure page titles and information density

Notification Settings

Manage dashboard notifications for:
  • New patient referrals
  • Pending tasks
  • System updates
  • Worklist changes

Start with Firm Selection

Always select your current firm when starting your session to ensure correct data visibility

Troubleshooting

Common Issues

  • Verify you have selected a firm
  • Check your user permissions
  • Clear your browser cache
  • Contact your system administrator if the issue persists
  • Confirm correct firm is selected
  • Verify date range filters
  • Check site selection for multi-site installations
  • Ensure you have appropriate view permissions
  • Verify identifier format (e.g., hospital number format)
  • Try alternative search criteria (name vs. number)
  • Check for leading/trailing spaces
  • Confirm patient exists in the system
