Visit OpenTogetherTube

Go to opentogethertube.com in your web browser.You’ll see the home page with options to create or join a room.

Create a room

Choose between two types of rooms:Temporary Room
  • Click Create Temporary Room for a quick session
  • Room name is automatically generated (e.g., cheerful-elephant)
  • Room expires after 2 hours of inactivity
  • No account needed
Permanent Room
  • Click Create Permanent Room to customize the name
  • Enter a custom room name (e.g., movie-night)
  • Room persists indefinitely
  • Can be claimed with an account for ownership

Add videos

Once in your room, add videos to watch:
  1. Click the Add Video button or search box
  2. Enter a video URL or search query:
    • YouTube videos or playlists
    • Vimeo videos
    • Direct video URLs (.mp4, .webm)
    • HLS streams (.m3u8)
    • DASH streams (.mpd)
  3. Click Add to add the video to the queue
You can search YouTube directly by typing keywords instead of a URL

Invite friends

Share your room with friends:
  • Copy the room URL from your browser’s address bar
  • Click the Share button in the room to get a direct link
  • Send the link via:
    • Discord, Slack, or other chat apps
    • Email or text message
    • Social media
Everyone who joins will see the same video at the same time!

Playback controls

  • Play/Pause - Everyone sees synchronized playback
  • Seek - Jump to any point in the video
  • Skip - Move to the next video in queue
  • Playback speed - Adjust speed from 0.25x to 2x

Room settings

Access room settings via the ⚙️ icon:
  • Title and description - Customize your room
  • Visibility - Public, unlisted, or private
  • Queue mode - Manual, vote, loop, or DJ mode
  • Permissions - Control who can add videos, chat, and more
Only the room owner or administrators can change room settings

Vote mode

Enable democratic video selection:
  • Room members vote on videos in the queue
  • Highest voted video plays next
  • Great for group movie nights

DJ mode

Enable continuous playback with auto-skip:
  • Videos play automatically in order
  • Perfect for background music while gaming or working
  • No manual intervention needed

SponsorBlock integration

Automatically skip sponsored segments:
  • Works with YouTube videos
  • Skip sponsor segments, intros, outros, and more
  • Configurable in client settings

Troubleshooting

  • Check that the video URL is supported
  • Try refreshing the page
  • Check your browser’s console for errors
  • Some videos may be region-blocked or require authentication
  • Click your profile icon and select Refresh
  • Check your internet connection
  • Try reducing playback quality
  • Check room permissions - you may need to request add-to-queue permission
  • Contact the room owner or an administrator
  • Verify the room URL is correct
  • Temporary rooms expire after 2 hours of inactivity
  • The room may have been deleted by its owner
