Overview

upLegal’s search and filtering system provides clients with powerful tools to find the perfect lawyer for their legal needs. The system combines location-based search, specialty filtering, and advanced filters for rating, price, experience, and availability.

Search Capabilities

Text Search

Clients can search for lawyers using natural language queries. The search system includes intelligent keyword detection:
  • Family Law Keywords: familia, divorcio, pension, alimentos, visitas, tuicion, cuidado personal, separacion
  • Labor Law Keywords: despido, laboral, trabajo, finiquito, tutela
When these keywords are detected, the system automatically suggests or applies the relevant specialty filter. The platform supports searching across all Chilean regions and cities:

Advanced Filters

Consultation Modality

Clients can filter lawyers by consultation type:
  • Online: Virtual consultations via video call
  • Presencial: In-person consultations (requires region selection)
When selecting “Presencial” mode, clients must choose a specific Chilean region to find lawyers offering in-person consultations in that area.

Price Range Filter

Filter lawyers by hourly consultation rate in Chilean Pesos (CLP):
  • Range: 0−0 - 1,000,000 CLP per hour
  • Step: $10,000 CLP increments
  • Display: Prices shown with Chilean number formatting (e.g., $50.000)

Rating Filter

Filter by minimum lawyer rating:
  • Range: 1-5 stars
  • Visual: Interactive star selector
  • Display: Shows “X+” for selected rating (e.g., “4+” means 4 stars or higher)

Experience Filter

Filter by minimum years of professional experience:
  • Options: Any, 3+, 5+, 10+ years
  • Quick Select: Grid of buttons for fast filtering

Availability Filters

Multiple availability options can be selected simultaneously:

Sorting Options

Search results can be sorted by:
  1. Mejor calificación (Best Rating): Highest-rated lawyers first
  2. Más reseñas (Most Reviews): Lawyers with most client reviews
  3. Precio: menor a mayor (Price: Low to High): Ascending hourly rate
  4. Precio: mayor a menor (Price: High to Low): Descending hourly rate

Active filters are displayed as removable badges:

Filter Panel UI

The filter panel is a sliding drawer on mobile and desktop:
  • Position: Slides in from the right
  • Width: Full width on mobile, max 28rem on desktop
  • Scroll: Independently scrollable content area
  • Actions: Sticky bottom bar with “Limpiar filtros” and “Aplicar filtros” buttons

Filter Application

Filters are applied when:
  1. Client clicks “Aplicar filtros” button
  2. Panel automatically closes
  3. URL parameters are updated
  4. Search results are refreshed with new filters

Search Performance

  • Debouncing: 300ms delay to prevent excessive API calls
  • Infinite Scroll: Automatic loading of additional results
  • Page Size: 12 lawyers per page
  • Loading States: Skeleton screens during initial load and pagination

FAQ

Yes! You can select multiple legal specialties to find lawyers who practice in multiple areas. The search will return lawyers who match any of the selected specialties.
The price filter shows the lawyer’s hourly consultation rate in Chilean Pesos. Use the slider to set your minimum and maximum budget, and only lawyers within that range will be displayed.
Lawyers with “Quick Response” enabled typically respond to messages within 2 hours during business hours, ensuring faster communication for time-sensitive legal matters.
Currently, you can search for one location at a time. To see lawyers from multiple cities, you’ll need to perform separate searches or remove the location filter to see all available lawyers.
