This guide walks you through setting up a fresh Windows 11 installation, including system updates, driver installation, and basic configuration.

Run Windows Update

Open Settings > Windows Update and click Check for updates.Install all available updates.

Update drivers

Install and run Driver Booster to update all system drivers.
Driver Booster helps ensure all hardware drivers are up to date, which can improve system stability and performance.

Restart your PC

After updates complete, restart your computer to apply changes.

Check for remaining updates

Repeat steps 1-3 to check for any remaining updates.
Sometimes updates unlock additional updates, so it’s important to repeat this process until no more updates are available.

Verify System Updates

Check that all updates have been installed:
# Check Windows Update status
Get-WindowsUpdate -LastInstallation

# Check Windows version
winver

Clean Up Pre-installed Apps

Uninstall unnecessary apps

Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps and remove any pre-installed applications you don’t need.
Be careful not to uninstall system-critical applications. When in doubt, leave the app installed.

Update Microsoft Store apps

Open the Microsoft Store, click on Library, and update all installed apps.
# Verify Microsoft Store is working
winget source update

Verify Installation

Confirm your system is ready:
# Check Windows version
systeminfo | Select-String "OS Name", "OS Version"

# Verify winget is available
winget --version
