Plank’s media library is your personal streaming collection, powered by torrents and organized by profiles. Add content from the browse view or search, and watch it stream instantly.

Library Overview

Your library displays all movies and TV shows you’ve added, organized by type with easy filtering and search.

Key Features

Dual Library Views

Switch between Movies and TV Shows with a single tap. Each view shows a count of items in your collection.

Continue Watching

Resume playback right where you left off. The continue watching section appears at the top of your library when you have in-progress content.

Profile-Based Collections

Each profile has its own separate library. Content is isolated per profile, perfect for families or shared accounts.

Rich Metadata

Automatic TMDB integration provides posters, backdrops, descriptions, runtime, genres, and certification ratings.

Adding Media to Your Library

There are three ways to add content to your library:

  2. Browse trending or popular content
  3. Click the plus icon on any movie or show
  4. For TV shows, select specific seasons from the context menu
Content is automatically matched with high-quality torrents from trusted release groups via Prowlarr. Use the search feature to find specific titles:

  2. Enter the movie or show name
  3. Select from search results
  4. Add to your library
You can also add content directly via magnet links if you have them from external sources.

Library Organization

Movies

Movies are displayed in a grid layout with:
  • Movie poster
  • Title and year
  • MPAA rating badge (G, PG, PG-13, R, NC-17)
  • Download progress indicator
  • Quick actions menu

TV Shows

TV shows include additional organization:
  • Show poster and metadata
  • Season and episode management
  • Individual episode tracking
  • Per-episode watch progress
  • Episode file management
When you add a TV show, Plank automatically:
  1. Creates the show entry with TMDB metadata
  2. Fetches season and episode information
  3. Maps torrent files to episodes
  4. Tracks download progress per episode

TV Show Season Management

Plank intelligently handles TV show seasons:
  • Season Detection: Automatically detects which seasons are included in a torrent
  • Episode Mapping: Maps video files to TMDB episode data
  • Incremental Downloads: Add individual seasons to existing shows
  • Episode Organization: Maintains proper episode order even with complex file structures

Media Status & Progress

Each media item has a status that indicates its download state:
  • Added: Media has been added to your library but download hasn’t started
  • Downloading: Actively downloading from peers
  • Complete: Fully downloaded and saved to your library directory
  • Error: Download failed (usually due to no seeders)

Download Progress

While content is downloading, you’ll see:
  • Real-time progress percentage
  • Download speed (MB/s or KB/s)
  • Number of connected peers
  • Estimated time remaining (in player view)
You can start watching as soon as enough of the file has downloaded (typically 5% for movies, variable for TV episodes).

Continue Watching

Plank automatically tracks your viewing progress:
  • Auto-Resume: Playback resumes from where you left off
  • Progress Tracking: Updated every 5 seconds during playback
  • Completion Detection: Items marked complete when you watch to the end
  • Recent List: Shows most recently watched items across your library
The continue watching section appears at the top of your library and shows:
  • Large backdrop thumbnails
  • Watch progress bar
  • Time remaining
  • Quick resume playback

Library Management

Deleting Media

Remove media from your library:
  1. Click the three-dot menu on any media card
  2. Select “Delete”
  3. Confirm the deletion
This removes the media entry and all associated downloads from your profile. For TV shows, this deletes all seasons and episodes.

Retry Failed Downloads

If a download fails (usually due to no seeders), you can:
  1. View the media detail page
  2. Click “Retry Download”
  3. Plank will attempt to resume the torrent
Alternatively, delete and re-add with a different torrent source.

Search Your Library

Quickly find content in your library using the search feature:
  • Full-text search powered by SQLite FTS5
  • Searches titles and descriptions
  • Instant results as you type
  • Fallback to fuzzy matching for partial matches
Search is profile-scoped, so you only see content from your active profile.

Library Storage

Completed media is stored in the library directory configured during setup:
  • Movies: Stored as single video files
  • TV Shows: Organized by show name with season folders
  • Subtitles: Stored alongside video files as .vtt sidecar files
  • Metadata: Cached TMDB images stored in the library/images directory
Files remain in your library even after the torrent completes, allowing fast playback without re-downloading.
