Overview

Forge allows you to create and manage multiple dashboards, each with its own unique layout and set of widgets. This helps you organize different aspects of your workflow—like work, personal projects, or specific tasks—into separate, focused spaces.

Creating a Dashboard

1

Navigate to Dashboard Settings

Click the dashboard dropdown in the top navigation bar to access your dashboard list.
2

Add New Dashboard

Select “Create Dashboard” from the menu and provide a meaningful name for your new dashboard.
3

Start Customizing

Your new dashboard is created empty. Begin adding widgets to personalize your workspace.

Managing Dashboards

Switching Dashboards

Use the dashboard dropdown in the navigation bar to quickly switch between your dashboards. Your last active dashboard is automatically remembered.

Renaming Dashboards

Click the settings icon next to a dashboard name to rename it. Choose names that clearly reflect the dashboard’s purpose.

Deleting Dashboards

Remove dashboards you no longer need from the dashboard menu. All widgets on the dashboard will be permanently deleted.

Dashboard Persistence

All changes to your dashboards are automatically saved. Your layouts, widgets, and configurations persist across sessions.
Deleting a dashboard is permanent and will remove all widgets and configurations associated with it. This action cannot be undone.

Dashboard Properties

Each dashboard stores the following information:
  • Name: A unique identifier for your dashboard
  • Widgets: All widgets added to this dashboard with their positions and configurations
  • Creation Date: When the dashboard was first created
  • Last Updated: Timestamp of the most recent modification

Use Cases

Create a dedicated work dashboard with widgets for:
  • GitHub issues and pull requests
  • Email inbox monitoring
  • Meeting schedule for the day
  • Kanban board for task tracking
Keep your dashboard names short and descriptive. Consider using emoji or special characters to make them easily distinguishable at a glance.

Best Practices

  1. Organize by Context: Create separate dashboards for different contexts (work, personal, specific projects) to maintain focus
  2. Limit Dashboard Count: While you can create unlimited dashboards, keeping a manageable number (3-7) helps avoid decision fatigue
  3. Regular Cleanup: Periodically review and remove dashboards you no longer use
  4. Consistent Naming: Use a consistent naming convention across your dashboards for easier navigation
