Quickstart Guide

This guide will help you get started with Budget Bee quickly. You’ll learn how to create an account, add your first transaction, and explore the dashboard.

Step 1: Create Your Account

Budget Bee supports two authentication methods:

Navigate to Sign Up

Visit the Budget Bee application and click on Sign Up or Register.

Fill in Your Details

Enter your information:
  • Name: Your full name (minimum 2 characters)
  • Email: A valid email address
  • Password: Must meet these requirements:
    • At least 8 characters
    • At least 1 lowercase letter
    • At least 1 uppercase letter
    • At least 1 number

Accept Terms

Check the box to agree to the Terms and Conditions.

Verify Your Email

After signing up, you’ll receive a verification email. Click the link in the email to verify your account.
You must verify your email before you can access Budget Bee features.

Step 2: Add Your First Transaction

Navigate to Transactions

After logging in, you’ll be on the transactions page by default, or click Transactions in the sidebar.

Create a Transaction

Click the + button or use the keyboard shortcut to open the transaction dialog.Fill in the transaction details:
  • Name: Description of the transaction (e.g., “Coffee at Starbucks”)
  • Amount: The transaction amount
  • Currency: Select from supported currencies (default: USD)
  • Date: When the transaction occurred
  • Category: Choose from default categories (Food, Travel, Sales) or create your own
  • Status: Paid, pending, or other status

Save the Transaction

Click Save to create your transaction. It will appear in your transactions list immediately.
Budget Bee automatically creates three default categories when you sign up: Food, Travel, and Sales.

Step 3: Explore the Dashboard

Navigate to Dashboards

Click Dashboards in the sidebar to view your dashboards.

Create a Dashboard

Click Create Dashboard to build your first custom view.Give your dashboard a name (e.g., “Monthly Overview”).

Add Widgets

Once created, you can add various widgets:
  • Number Cards: Display single metrics (total income, expenses, etc.)
  • Bar Charts: Visualize data over time
  • Line Charts: Track trends
  • Donut Charts: See category breakdowns
Widgets are fully customizable and can be rearranged using drag-and-drop.

Step 4: Set Up Categories

Categories help you organize your transactions:

Access Category Management

Categories can be managed from the transaction creation dialog or settings.

Create Custom Categories

Click New Category and provide:
  • Name: Category name
  • Description: Optional description
  • Color: Choose a color for visual identification

Assign to Transactions

When creating or editing transactions, select the appropriate category from the dropdown.

Step 5: View Your Data

Budget Bee provides multiple ways to view your financial data:

Transactions Page

View all transactions in a sortable, filterable table. Use bulk edit mode to update multiple transactions at once.

Dashboards

Create custom views with widgets showing your most important metrics and charts.

Subscriptions

Track recurring payments in a calendar view (if enabled for your account).

Accounts

Manage your profile, sessions, and account settings.

Keyboard Shortcuts

Budget Bee supports keyboard shortcuts for faster navigation. Navigate to Settings → Shortcuts to view all available keyboard shortcuts, including:
  • Shift + H - Navigate to home
  • Shift + T - Navigate to transactions
  • Shift + X - Navigate to settings
  • Shift + A - Navigate to accounts
  • N - Open new transaction dialog
Some features like subscriptions may require a paid subscription plan. Check your account status in settings.
