Sable offers extensive profile customization options to help you express yourself in the Matrix network.

Profile Banners

Added in version 1.1.3, profile banners allow you to set a custom header image for your profile.

Setting a Profile Banner

  1. Open your User Settings
  2. Navigate to your profile section
  3. Click on the banner area to upload an image
  4. Your banner will be visible to all users who view your profile
Sable supports the Commet profile banner format, ensuring compatibility with other Matrix clients that use the same format.

Pronouns

Sable supports pronoun display following the MSC4247 format. Pronouns appear as small pills next to your display name.

Adding Pronouns

  1. Open Settings
  2. Navigate to your profile section
  3. Enter your pronouns in the pronouns field
  4. Save your changes

Pronoun Display

  • Desktop: Up to 3 pronoun pills are displayed
  • Mobile: 1 pronoun pill is displayed to save space
Pronouns are visible in:
  • User profiles
  • Member lists
  • Chat messages (when hovering over usernames)
In version 1.2.1, the pronoun format was updated to better match MSC4247. If you set pronouns before this update, you’ll need to reset them.

Bio Editor

Your bio is a longer text description that appears on your profile page.

Editing Your Bio

  1. Open Settings
  2. Navigate to your profile section
  3. Enter or edit your bio in the bio text field
  4. Save your changes

  • Character limit: Up to 1,024 characters
  • Formatting support: Basic text formatting is supported
  • Commet compatibility: Sable supports bio formats from Commet, another Matrix client

  1. Open Settings
  2. Navigate to your profile section
  3. Enter your new display name
  4. Save your changes
Your display name is what other users see across all rooms and spaces.

  1. Open Settings
  2. Navigate to your profile section
  3. Click on your current avatar
  4. Upload a new image
  5. Crop and adjust as needed
  6. Save your changes
Your avatar appears next to your messages and in member lists throughout Sable.

Timezones

Sable supports displaying your timezone on your profile, making it easier for others to know when you’re likely to be available.
  1. Open Settings
  2. Navigate to your profile section
  3. Select your timezone from the dropdown
  4. Save your changes
