Create comprehensive knowledge assessments with customizable questions, settings, and collaboration features.
Overview
KnowledgeCheckr provides a multi-stage workflow for creating checks. The process is divided into four sections:
- Basic Information
- Questions
- Settings
- Review & Save
Navigate to Check Creation
From your dashboard at /checks, click the “Create Check” button or visit /checks/create directly.
You must be authenticated to create checks. Anonymous users can take checks but cannot create them.
In the first stage, provide essential details about your check:
Name: Give your check a descriptive title
Description: Explain the purpose and scope of the assessment
Difficulty: Set a difficulty level (numeric value, minimum 0)
Open Date: When users can start accessing the check
Close Date: When the check expires (defaults to 14 days from creation)
Collaborators: Add other users who can edit this check
Set appropriate open and close dates to control when your check is available. This is useful for scheduled assessments or time-limited courses.
In the second stage, build your question bank:
Click the “Create Question” button with the plus icon
In the question dialog, configure:
- Question text: The actual question to be answered
- Type: Choose from multiple question types (single choice, multiple choice, etc.)
- Category: Organize questions by topic or subject area
- Points: Assign point values for scoring
- Accessibility: Control where the question appears:
all: Available in both practice and exam modes
practice-only: Only available during practice sessions
exam-only: Only appears in examination attempts
Add answer options and mark correct answers
Click save to add the question to your check
You must add at least one question before proceeding to the next stage.
Once questions are created, you can:
Edit: Click the pen icon to modify any question
Delete: Click the trash icon to remove a question
Review: Each question card shows its category, type, and point value
The third stage contains three configuration sections:
Control how exam mode works:
Enable Examinations: Toggle whether users can take formal exams
Start Date: When examinations become available
End Date: When examinations close (optional, null for no limit)
Question Order: Display questions in creation order or randomize
Answer Order: Display answers in creation order or randomize
Allow Anonymous: Whether anonymous users can take the exam
Allow Free Navigation: Let users jump between questions freely
Exam Time Frame: Maximum duration in seconds (60 to 18,000)
Attempt Count: How many times users can attempt the exam (minimum 1)
Once a user starts an examination attempt, their time begins counting. Ensure the time frame is sufficient for all questions.
Enable Practicing: Toggle practice mode availability
Allowed Practice Count: Maximum practice attempts (null for unlimited)
Practice mode allows users to learn without pressure, with immediate feedback and no time limits.
Share Accessibility: Make the check publicly discoverable
When enabled, your check can be found by other users through the discover page.
The final stage shows an overview of your configured check:
Review all sections to ensure everything is correct
Use the “Jump Back” buttons on each card to quickly edit specific sections
Click the “Save” button to create your check
After saving, you’ll be redirected to your checks dashboard where you can:
View the check details
Share the check with others
Track user attempts and results
Edit the check at any time
Multi-Stage Navigation
The creation wizard includes:
- Progress Bar: Visual indicator showing your current stage
- Previous/Next Buttons: Navigate between stages
- Stage Validation: Each stage validates your input before allowing progression
Your progress is cached locally. If you navigate away, your work is preserved and you can continue where you left off.
After Creation
Once created, your check:
- Receives a unique share token for distribution
- Is accessible from your checks dashboard at
/checks
- Can be edited at any time by revisiting the configuration page
- Tracks all user attempts and results
