Prerequisites

  • A Facebook Page (not a personal profile)
  • Admin access to the Facebook Page
  • Facebook account with appropriate permissions

Setup

Navigate to inbox settings

Go to SettingsInboxesAdd InboxMessenger

Authorize Facebook

Click Sign in with Facebook and authorize Chatwoot to access your pages.You’ll need to grant these permissions:
  • pages_show_list - View list of pages you manage
  • pages_messaging - Send and receive messages
  • pages_read_engagement - Read page content
  • pages_manage_metadata - Manage page settings

Select your page

Choose which Facebook Page to connect from the list of pages you manage.

Configure inbox settings

  • Add agents to the inbox
  • Configure auto-assignment rules
  • Set business hours

Test the integration

Send a test message to your Facebook Page. It should appear in Chatwoot within seconds.

Message Templates

For sending messages outside the 24-hour response window, use Facebook approved message templates:
  1. Create templates in Facebook Business Manager
  2. Get template approval from Facebook
  3. Use templates in Chatwoot conversations

Respond within 24 hours to maintain high response rate
Use canned responses for common questions
Set up automation rules for common scenarios
Keep Facebook Page published and active
Monitor connection status regularly

Troubleshooting

  • Reconnect your Facebook Page in inbox settings
  • Check Facebook permissions are granted
  • Verify page is published
  • Check Chatwoot logs for API errors
  • Check if 24-hour messaging window has passed
  • Use message templates for messages outside window
  • Verify page token is valid
  • Ensure page is not restricted by Facebook
  • Clear browser cache and cookies
  • Try different browser
  • Check if Facebook account has admin access to page

Limitations

  • Facebook has a 24-hour messaging window for promotional messages
  • Message templates require Facebook approval
