Understanding Wallets

Medusa Wallet allows you to create multiple Lightning wallets within your account. This helps you organize your funds for different purposes (personal, business, savings, etc.).
When you create an account, a default wallet is automatically created. You can create additional wallets at any time.

Creating a New Wallet

Access New Wallet Screen

From the home screen, tap the ”+” button or navigate to “Create Wallet”.

Enter Wallet Name

Choose a descriptive name for your wallet (e.g., “Personal”, “Business”, “Savings”).
Wallet names can be up to a certain character limit. Choose names that help you quickly identify the wallet’s purpose.

Select a Color

Choose a color for your wallet card. This helps visually distinguish between wallets on the home screen.Available colors include various options to match your preference or organizational system.

Create Wallet

Tap “Create Wallet” to finalize. Your new wallet will appear on the home screen.

Wallet Features

Each wallet in Medusa includes:
  • Unique Balance: Each wallet maintains its own separate balance
  • Independent Keys: Each wallet has its own admin and invoice keys
  • Custom Appearance: Personalized name and color
  • Transaction History: Separate payment history per wallet

Managing Wallets

Viewing Wallet Details

Tap on any wallet card to view:
  • Current balance in sats and fiat equivalent
  • Recent transactions
  • Wallet settings and options

Renaming a Wallet

Access Wallet Settings

Tap on the wallet you want to rename, then navigate to wallet settings.

Edit Name

Enter a new name for the wallet.

Save Changes

Confirm the new name. The wallet card will update immediately.

Changing Wallet Color

You can update your wallet’s color at any time through the wallet settings menu.

Deleting a Wallet

Before deleting a wallet:
  • Ensure the wallet balance is zero or transfer funds to another wallet
  • Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone
  • You cannot delete your default wallet while it has a balance

Access Wallet Settings

Navigate to the settings of the wallet you want to delete.

Select Delete

Choose the delete option. You’ll be asked to confirm.

Confirm Deletion

Confirm the deletion. The wallet and its history will be removed.

Default Wallet

Your default wallet has special features:
  • Lightning Address: Your default wallet is linked to your Lightning address
  • Primary Receiving: Payments to your Lightning address go to this wallet
  • Cannot Delete: The default wallet cannot be deleted while active
You can set a different wallet as your default wallet in the settings if needed.

Use Cases for Multiple Wallets

  1. Personal & Business Separation
    Wallet 1: "Personal" (blue) - everyday spending
    Wallet 2: "Business" (green) - business income
    
  2. Budget Management
    Wallet 1: "Bills" (red) - monthly expenses
    Wallet 2: "Entertainment" (purple) - fun money
    Wallet 3: "Savings" (gold) - long-term storage
    
  3. Project-Based
    Wallet 1: "Project A" (blue)
    Wallet 2: "Project B" (green)
    Wallet 3: "General" (gray)
    

Best Practices

Organization Tips:
  • Use descriptive names that indicate the wallet’s purpose
  • Choose distinct colors for quick visual identification
  • Keep your active wallets to a manageable number (3-5 is ideal)
  • Regularly review and consolidate unused wallets

Viewing Total Balance

Your home screen displays:
  • Individual wallet balances
  • Combined total balance across all wallets
  • Balances in both satoshis and your preferred fiat currency
