Installation Guide
This guide covers everything you need to install and run SlasshyWispr on your Windows system.System Requirements
Minimum Requirements
- Operating System: Windows 10 or later
- RAM: 4 GB minimum (8 GB recommended for local models)
- Disk Space:
- Base installation: ~200 MB
- Local STT models: 60 MB - 1.6 GB per model
- Local AI models (Ollama): 2-8 GB per model
- Microphone: Any working microphone or headset
- Internet: Required for online mode and initial setup
Recommended for Offline Models
SlasshyWispr includes hardware detection to recommend appropriate local STT models based on your system capabilities.
- CPU: Modern multi-core processor (4+ cores recommended)
- RAM: 8 GB or more
- GPU (Optional): NVIDIA GPU with CUDA support for faster processing
- RAM: 16 GB recommended for larger models
- GPU (Optional): NVIDIA GPU with 6+ GB VRAM for faster inference
Supported Local Models
STT Models:- Parakeet v3 (478 MB) - Fast, accurate, recommended
- Parakeet v2 (473 MB) - Previous generation
- Whisper Large v3 Turbo (1.6 GB) - High accuracy, slower
- Whisper Medium (492 MB) - Balanced
- Whisper Small (487 MB) - Fast, lower accuracy
- Moonshine Base (58 MB) - Tiny, fastest
- SenseVoice Small (160 MB) - Compact option
- Any model supported by Ollama (llama3, mistral, phi, etc.)

Navigate to the official GitHub Releases page.
Install SlasshyWispr
Handle security warnings
Windows may display a SmartScreen warning because the app is not yet widely recognized.To proceed:
- Click “More info”
- Click “Run anyway”
Follow installation wizard
The installer will guide you through:
- License agreement acceptance
- Installation location selection (default is recommended)
- Start Menu shortcut creation
- Desktop shortcut (optional)
Verify Installation
After installation completes:Launch the application
Open SlasshyWispr from:
- Start Menu: Search for “SlasshyWispr”
- Desktop shortcut (if created during installation)
Check version
The current version (e.g.,
0.1.5) should be visible in the app interface or in Settings > Update and Security.On first launch, Windows Firewall may prompt you to allow network access. Grant access if you plan to use online models or check for updates.
Post-Installation Setup
After verifying installation, proceed with initial configuration:- Choose Runtime Modes: Navigate to Settings > Models to select Online, Offline, or Hybrid mode
- Configure API Keys (if using online mode)
- Download Local Models (if using offline mode)
- Set Hotkeys: Configure your preferred keyboard shortcuts in Settings > General
Updates
SlasshyWispr provides two methods for updating:In-App Updates (Recommended)
Check for updates
Navigate to Settings > Update and Security.SlasshyWispr will check for available updates from the GitHub releases.
Review release notes
If an update is available, you’ll see:
- Latest version number
- Release notes and changelog
- Published date
Manual Updates
Alternatively, you can update manually:- Visit the Releases page
- Download the latest installer
- Run the installer (it will upgrade your existing installation)
- Your settings and data will be preserved
Uninstall
To remove SlasshyWispr from your system:- Open Windows Settings > Apps > Installed Apps
- Find SlasshyWispr in the list
- Click the three-dot menu and select Uninstall
- Follow the uninstall wizard
Uninstalling removes the application but may preserve settings in your user directory. To completely remove all data, manually delete the SlasshyWispr folder from
%APPDATA%.Troubleshooting Installation
Installer won’t run
- Ensure you have administrator privileges
- Temporarily disable antivirus software
- Verify the downloaded file is not corrupted (re-download if necessary)
Application won’t launch
- Check Windows Event Viewer for error logs
- Ensure .NET runtime is installed (usually bundled with Windows 10+)
- Try reinstalling the application
Microphone not detected
- Check Windows microphone permissions: Settings > Privacy > Microphone
- Ensure your microphone is set as the default recording device
- Restart SlasshyWispr after connecting a new microphone
