The Essential Mod source code is available under a source-available license, not an open-source license. This means the code is publicly accessible for transparency and verification purposes, but with important restrictions on its use.

License Agreement

The Essential Mod is made available under the Essential Mod Source Available License Agreement (last updated January 22nd, 2025). This license allows you to view and audit the source code, but reserves all rights to the code and the mod itself.

What You CAN Do

The license permits the following activities:
  • Audit the source code - Review the code for transparency and security purposes
  • Compile the source code - Build the mod yourself to confirm the authenticity of official releases
  • Create unmodified forks - Fork the repository without making any modifications (added January 22nd, 2025)

What You CANNOT Do

The following activities are explicitly prohibited under the license:
  • Use any code or assets - Including for personal use
  • Incorporate code in other projects - You cannot use Essential’s code as a reference in new projects
  • Modify or alter the source code - No modifications or derivative works are permitted
  • Distribute compiled versions - You cannot distribute builds of the source code or modified versions
  • Commercialize the code - No selling, licensing, or commercial exploitation
  • Create derivative works - No works based upon the Essential Mod code

No Warranty

The Essential Mod is provided “AS IS” without any warranty of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise.
All warranties are expressly disclaimed, including:
  • Warranties of merchantability
  • Fitness for a particular purpose
  • Non-infringement
  • That the mod will be error-free or meet your requirements

Purpose of Source Availability

Essential has made the source code available to:
  1. Enable transparency - Demonstrate commitment to the community by making code visible
  2. Allow verification - Let users confirm that distributed binaries match the published source
  3. Support auditing - Enable security researchers and users to audit the code
  4. Build trust - Show exactly what the mod does without hiding behind closed source

Essential (ModCore Inc.) reserves:
  • All rights to the Essential Mod and its underlying code
