MyDiary gives you complete control over who can see each diary entry. Choose from public, private, or friends-only sharing.

Understanding visibility levels

Every diary entry has one of three visibility settings:

Public entries

Who can see it: All your accepted friends Public entries appear in the feeds of all users who have an accepted friendship with you. This is the default setting when creating a new entry.
Public entries are NOT visible to all MyDiary users - only to people who are your friends.

Private entries

Who can see it: Only you Private entries are completely hidden from all other users. Use this setting for:
  • Personal reflections you don’t want to share
  • Sensitive thoughts or experiences
  • Draft entries you might share later

Friends-only entries

Who can see it: Specific friends you select Friends-only entries are only visible to the friends you explicitly choose. This gives you granular control over sharing.

Setting visibility when creating entries

1

Write your entry

Fill in the text area with your diary entry content.
2

Click the visibility dropdown

Look for the icon at the bottom of the entry form (defaults to a public icon) and click it to open the visibility menu.
3

Select your privacy level

Choose from three options:
  • Publico (Public) - Visible to all friends
  • Privado (Private) - Visible only to you
  • Solo algunos amigos (Only some friends) - Visible to selected friends
4

Select friends (if needed)

If you chose “Solo algunos amigos”, a modal will open showing your friend list.
  • Check the box next to each friend who should see this entry
  • Click Listo (Done) to confirm
5

Publish

Click Publicar entrada to save your entry with the selected visibility.

Changing visibility on existing entries

You can update the visibility of any entry you’ve already published:
1

Find your entry

Locate the entry in your feed that you want to modify.
2

Open the edit modal

Click the edit icon (pencil) in the top-right corner of the entry card.
3

Change visibility

Click the visibility dropdown and select a new privacy level.
When changing to “Friends-only”, you can select different friends than you originally chose.
4

Save changes

Click Publicar entrada to update the entry with the new visibility setting.
Changing an entry from public to private will immediately hide it from all friends. Changing from private to public will make it visible to all friends.

Viewing shared entries in your feed

Your home feed displays entries from multiple sources:
  1. Your own entries (all visibility levels)
  2. Public entries from your friends
  3. Friends-only entries where you were specifically selected
Entries are sorted by creation date, with the newest at the top.

Visual indicators

Each entry shows a small icon indicating its visibility:
IconVisibility Level
Globe/public iconPublic - All friends can see
Lock iconPrivate - Only you can see
People iconFriends-only - Selected friends can see

Best practices for sharing

Use friends-only for couple or close friend sharingCreate intimate moments by sharing entries with your partner or a small group of close friends. This is perfect for:
  • Personal updates you want to share with specific people
  • Couple’s diary entries
  • Shared experiences with a particular friend group
Start with private, share laterWrite entries as private first, then edit them to make them public or friends-only once you’re comfortable sharing.
Mix visibility levelsYou don’t have to use the same visibility for all entries. Mix public, private, and friends-only to create a rich, nuanced diary experience.
