Calculation methods

Nimaz supports 11 internationally recognized calculation methods to ensure accurate prayer times for your region:

Asr calculation methods

Choose between two schools of jurisprudence for Asr prayer timing:
Used by Shafi’i, Maliki, and Hanbali schools. Shadow length = object length.

High latitude adjustments

For regions with extreme latitudes where twilight persists, Nimaz offers three adjustment methods:

Middle of the night

Calculates Fajr and Isha based on the middle point between sunset and sunrise

Seventh of the night

Uses 1/7th of the night duration for twilight calculation

Twilight angle

Adjusts the angle used for twilight calculations

Prayer time notifications

Notification types

Nimaz provides two types of notifications to keep you informed:
Alerts you when it’s time for each prayer. Includes:
  • Prayer name and time
  • Islamic reminder or hadith
  • Quick action to mark prayer as prayed
  • Option to play Adhan
Advance notice before prayer time arrives. Configure reminder time from 5 to 60 minutes before each prayer.

Configuring notifications

Enable notifications

Grant notification permission when prompted during onboarding or in app settings

Select prayers

Choose which prayers should trigger notifications (Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha)

Set pre-reminders

Optionally enable pre-prayer reminders and set the advance notice time

Choose Adhan sound

Select from multiple Adhan recitations or use silent notifications
Sunrise is shown for reference but doesn’t trigger notifications by default, as it’s not a prayer time.

Daily summary

Receive a nightly summary at 11:00 PM showing:
  • Number of prayers completed
  • Number of prayers missed
  • Completion percentage for the day
  • Encouragement to maintain consistency

Location management

Nimaz calculates prayer times based on your GPS coordinates:

Current location

Automatically detect using device GPS

Saved locations

Save frequently used locations (home, work, etc.)

Manual coordinates

Enter latitude/longitude manually

City search

Search for locations by city name

Time adjustments

Fine-tune prayer times to match your local mosque or personal preference:
  • Adjust each prayer time by ±30 minutes
  • Adjustments are saved per location
  • Useful for syncing with local masjid schedules
Time adjustments are applied after the calculation method computes the base prayer times.

Monthly prayer times

View prayer times for the entire month in a calendar format:
  • See all prayer times at a glance
  • Navigate between months
  • Export or share monthly schedules
  • Compare times across different dates
