Perks System

Perks are passive abilities chosen on level-up. The player picks one from a random selection of 5 (or more with Perk Expert/Master). Most perks are permanent, some are instant one-shots, and a few carry harsh trade-offs.

Perk Selection Mechanics

Level-Up Process

  1. Gain experience from kills and bonuses
  2. Reach XP threshold to level up
  3. Game pauses and displays perk selection screen
  4. Choose 1 perk from offered selection
  5. Perk applies immediately
  6. Resume gameplay

Two-Player Perk Sharing

In co-op, perks are shared between players. Picking a perk grants it to all players simultaneously.

Movement speed caps at 2.8 (normally 2.0) when runningDescription: “You move like a train that has feet and runs. You just need a little time to warm up.   • Infected creatures take 15 damage every 0.5 seconds
  • Infection spreads to creatures within 45 units
  • Plague gradually suppresses itself via global counter

Fire during reload by spending XP instead of ammoDescription: “Attempt to shoot with an empty clip leads to a severe loss of experience. But hey, whatever makes them go down, right?”Effect:

  • XP can’t go negative
  • Prevents reload restart mid-reload

No health loss, but 10% instant death chance per hitDescription: “You are immortal. Well, almost immortal. Instead of actually losing health on attacks you’ve got a 10% chance of just dropping dead whenever a monster attacks you. There really can be only one, you know.”Effect:

  • Every hit has 10% chance of instant death

  • At 50% reload completion: fires plasma ring
  • Projectile count: 7 + floor(reload_time × 4)
  • Example: 2.0s reload = 15 projectiles

  • Uranium Filled Bullets + Barrel Greaser + Doctor: ×3.36 bullet damage
  • Dodger + Ninja: 33% dodge (Ninja overrides Dodger)
  • Veins of Poison + Toxic Avenger: 180 damage/sec on melee attackers
  • Regeneration + Greater Regeneration: ~1 HP/sec healing
  • Fastloader + Stationary Reloader: 0.7 × 0.33 = 0.23x reload (77% faster)
  • Perk Expert + Perk Master: 7 choices per level (not 14 as description implies)
