Overview

The bookmark system provides:
  • Conversation tagging - Label conversations with custom tags
  • Descriptions - Add notes about what makes a conversation important
  • Quick access - Find bookmarked conversations from the sidebar panel
  • Organization - Group related conversations with the same tag
  • Search and filter - Locate bookmarks by tag or description

Bookmark Form Fields

Tag (Required)

The tag is the label for your bookmark:
  • Character limit: 128 characters
  • Must be unique - No duplicate tags allowed
  • Case sensitive - “Project” and “project” are different tags
  • Examples: “Research”, “Code Examples”, “Meeting Notes”, “Important Decisions”

Description (Optional)

Add context about the bookmarked conversation:
  • Character limit: 1,048 characters
  • Markdown supported - Format your description for readability
  • Best practices:
    • Summarize key points from the conversation
    • Note why you bookmarked it
    • Add keywords for easier searching
    • Include dates or project names for context
Example description:

Key topics:
- Index optimization
- Query performance
- Caching strategies

Refer to this when working on the ProductDB refactor project.

Add to Conversation (Checkbox)

When creating a bookmark from within an active conversation:
  • Checked (default) - The tag is immediately applied to the current conversation
  • Unchecked - Only creates the tag for future use, doesn’t apply it to current conversation
Use unchecked when you’re creating a tag category for organizing multiple conversations later.

Saving the Bookmark

  1. Fill in at least the required tag field
  2. Optionally add a description
  3. Choose whether to add to current conversation

Organizing with Bookmarks

Tagging Strategies

By Project

Tag conversations related to specific projects:
  • “Website Redesign”
  • “Mobile App v2”
  • “Q1 Marketing Campaign”

By Topic

Organize by subject matter:
  • “Python Development”
  • “Data Analysis”
  • “Content Strategy”
  • “Technical Documentation”

By Purpose

Categorize by how you’ll use the conversation:
  • “Templates”
  • “Examples”
  • “Research”
  • “Brainstorming Sessions”
  • “Decisions”

By Status

Track workflow state:
  • “In Progress”
  • “Review Needed”
  • “Completed”
  • “Follow Up”

By Priority

Highlight importance:
  • “High Priority”
  • “Quick Reference”
  • “Important Insights”
  • “Key Decisions”

Hierarchical Organization

While tags are flat, you can create hierarchy with naming conventions:
  • “Project/Website” and “Project/Mobile”
  • “Work/Client-A” and “Work/Client-B”
  • “Learning/Python” and “Learning/JavaScript”
Use prefixes or separators (/, -, :) to create visual grouping.

Best Practices

Effective Tagging

  • Be consistent - Use the same tag names for similar conversations
  • Keep tags short - Easier to scan and apply
  • Avoid over-tagging - Too many tags reduces their usefulness
  • Use descriptive names - “Client Meeting” vs “Meeting”
  • Establish conventions - Decide on naming patterns and stick to them

Writing Descriptions

  • Summarize key points - What was discussed or decided
  • Add context - When, why, who was involved
  • Include keywords - Terms you might search for later
  • Note related items - Link to other relevant bookmarks or resources
  • Keep it concise - Detailed enough to be useful, brief enough to scan

Maintenance

  • Review periodically - Remove outdated bookmarks
  • Update descriptions - Add new context as projects evolve
  • Merge duplicate tags - Consolidate similar tags
  • Archive old projects - Delete or rename tags for completed work
  • Refine your system - Adjust tagging strategy as needed

Collaboration (If Supported)

  • Use shared tags - Coordinate naming with team members
  • Document tag meanings - Maintain a guide for team tags
  • Respect tag ownership - Don’t edit others’ personal bookmarks
  • Communicate changes - Notify team if you modify shared tags

Tips for Power Users

Quick Bookmarking Workflow

  1. Create a set of frequently-used tags in advance
  2. Use keyboard shortcuts (if available) to open bookmark dialog
  3. Type tag name quickly (autocomplete helps)
  4. Skip description for quick captures, add later if needed
  5. Review and enhance descriptions during weekly review

Combining with Other Features

  • Export bookmarked conversations - Backup important tagged conversations
  • Share bookmarked conversations - Send links to tagged conversations to teammates
  • Search within bookmarks - Use conversation search focused on bookmarked items only

Tag Naming Tips

  • Use emojis - ”🔥 High Priority” or ”✅ Completed” (if supported)
  • Date prefixes - “2024-Q1” or “March-2024”
  • Number prefixes - “001-Setup”, “002-Development” for ordered sequence
  • Color coding - Some systems allow tag colors for visual organization

Troubleshooting

Cannot Create Bookmark

Tag already exists:
  • Error message indicates the tag name is taken
  • Choose a different tag name
  • Or find the existing tag and apply it to your conversation
Validation errors:
  • Ensure tag field is filled (required)
  • Check that tag is within 128 character limit
  • Check that description is within 1,048 character limit

Bookmark Not Appearing

  • Refresh the bookmarks panel
  • Check if bookmark was actually saved (look for success message)
  • Verify you’re viewing the correct bookmark filter or category

Cannot Edit or Delete Bookmark

  • Verify you have permission to modify the bookmark
  • If it’s a shared bookmark, you may need owner permissions
  • Try refreshing the page

Lost Bookmarks

  • Check if accidentally deleted
  • Look in archive or deleted items (if available)
  • Verify you’re logged into the correct account
  • Bookmarks are tied to your user account

Keyboard Accessibility

Bookmark management is fully keyboard accessible:
  • Tab - Navigate between bookmark items and form fields
  • Enter - Open bookmark, submit form, or activate focused element
  • Escape - Close bookmark dialog or panel
  • Arrow keys - Navigate through bookmark list
