Overview

Pokémon Essentials BES includes full support for Generation 9 content, bringing all Pokémon, moves, and abilities from the Paldea region into your game. This page documents what’s included and how to use these features.
All Generation 9 content is fully functional and integrated with the existing Pokémon Essentials v16.2 codebase.

Generation 9 Pokémon

Pokémon Essentials BES includes all Generation 9 Pokémon from National Dex #906 through #1025:

  • Ting-Lu - Ruinous Pokémon (Dark/Ground)
  • Chi-Yu - Ruinous Pokémon (Dark/Fire)
  • Okidogi - Loyal Three (Poison/Fighting)
  • Munkidori - Loyal Three (Poison/Psychic)
  • Fezandipiti - Loyal Three (Poison/Fairy)
  • Ogerpon - Teal Mask Legendary (Grass)
  • Terapagos - Indigo Disk Legendary (Normal)
  • Pecharunt (#1025) - Mythical Pokémon (Poison/Ghost)

Paradox Pokémon

Both Ancient and Future Paradox Pokémon are fully implemented with their unique abilities and stats.
Paradox Pokémon have special abilities like Proto Synthesis and Quark Drive that are partially implemented. Check the abilities section below for details.

Generation 9 Moves

All Generation 9 moves are included in the PBS files with proper functionality:

Notable New Moves

Type: Normal | Category: Special | Power: 80 | Accuracy: 100A signature move that changes type based on the user’s Tera Type when Terastallized. Compares Attack and Special Attack stats to determine if it should be physical or special.Location in PBS: Move #796
Type: Normal | Category: Special | Power: 120 | Accuracy: 100Terapagos’s signature move. Attacks by radiating crystal power. When Terapagos uses this move in its Stellar Form, it damages all opposing Pokémon.Location in PBS: Move #823
  • Gigaton Hammer - Iron Thorns signature move
  • Torch Song - Skeledirge’s Fire-type move that boosts Sp. Atk
  • Aqua Step - Quaquaval’s Water-type move that boosts Speed
  • Armor Cannon - High power Fire move with defensive drawback
  • Bitter Blade - Physical Grass move that restores HP
  • Collision Course - Fighting move with type effectiveness boost
  • Electro Drift - Electric move with type effectiveness boost

Pokémon Essentials BES includes all Generation 9 abilities (#268-310):

Fully Implemented Abilities

  • Seed Sower (#269) - Creates Grassy Terrain when hit
  • Well-Baked Body (#277) - Immune to Fire, boosts Defense
  • Wind Rider (#281) - Immune to wind moves, boosts Attack
  • Earth Eater (#284) - Immune to Ground, restores HP
  • Guard Dog (#288) - Boosts Attack when intimidated, prevents forced switches
  • Good as Gold (#292) - Immune to status moves
  • Toxic Chain (#302) - Can badly poison targets
  • Minds Eye (#301) - Hits Ghost-types with Normal/Fighting moves

Partially Implemented Abilities

Some abilities have partial functionality and may need additional scripting:
  • Proto Synthesis (#290) - Boosts highest stat in harsh sunlight
  • Quark Drive (#291) - Boosts highest stat in Electric Terrain
  • Orichalcum Pulse (#297) - Creates harsh sunlight on entry
  • Hadron Engine (#298) - Creates Electric Terrain on entry

Signature Abilities

Zero to Hero

Palafin’s form-changing ability. Changes to Hero Form when withdrawn from battle.

Commander

Tatsugiri enters Dondozo’s mouth in Double Battles for stat boosts.

Tera Shift

Terapagos changes to Terastal Form upon entering battle.

Embody Aspect

The four Ogerpon masks each boost different stats when entering battle.

Regional Forms

Paldean Forms

While the base includes standard Wooper and Tauros, regional form variants may need to be configured separately in your PBS files if you want to use them.
To add Paldean form variants, you’ll need to create separate entries in pokemon.txt with appropriate form numbers and regional identifiers.

Terastallization

Terastallization mechanics are partially implemented:

What Needs Custom Implementation

Full Terastallization requires additional scripting beyond what’s included in the base PBS files:
  • Visual Tera transformation effects
  • Type change mechanics during battle
  • Tera Orb item and charging system
  • STAB boost calculations for Tera Types
  • UI elements for Tera Type display

Verifying Gen 9 Content

To verify that Generation 9 content is properly loaded:
  1. Check PBS/pokemon.txt for entries #906-1025
  2. Check PBS/moves.txt for moves like Tera Blast (#796)
  3. Check PBS/abilities.txt for abilities #268-310
  4. Compile your PBS files and test in-game
Remember to recompile PBS data after making any changes to Generation 9 content.

Known Limitations

  • Some abilities marked with #TODO or #A MEDIAS may have incomplete functionality
  • Full Terastallization system requires custom battle scripts
  • Some form-change mechanics may need additional event scripting
  • Paradox Pokémon abilities work but may not have visual effects
