Share your notes with specific users or make them publicly accessible. Control exactly who can view or edit your content.

Sharing options

Noteverse offers flexible sharing options to fit your needs:
  • Private: Only you can access the note
  • Shared: Specific users you invite can access the note
  • Public: Anyone with the link can view the note

Sharing with specific users

Invite specific people to collaborate on your note:
1

Open the share menu

Click the Share button in the top-right corner of the note editor. This button is only visible if you’re the note owner.
2

Add collaborators

Enter the email addresses of the users you want to share with. You can add multiple users at once.
3

Set permissions

Choose the permission level for each user:
  • View: User can read the note and see live updates but cannot edit
  • Edit: User can modify the note content and title
4

Send invitations

Click Share or Invite to send access to the selected users. They’ll receive a notification and can access the note immediately.
When you share with Edit permission, collaborators can work in real-time with you. Their changes appear instantly and are automatically saved.

Setting permissions

Choose the right permission level for each collaborator:

View permission

Users with View permission can:
  • Read the entire note
  • See live updates as others edit
  • See who else is viewing or editing
  • Add comments to discuss the content
  • Search within the note
Users with View permission cannot:
  • Edit the title or content
  • Change categories or tags
  • Modify sharing settings
  • Delete the note

Edit permission

Users with Edit permission can:
  • Everything View users can do, plus:
  • Modify the note title and content
  • Make changes that sync in real-time
  • See and work alongside other editors
  • Add formatting and rich content
Users with Edit permission cannot:
  • Change the note’s visibility settings
  • Remove or add other collaborators
  • Delete the note (only the owner can delete)
Only the note owner can manage sharing settings and permissions. Collaborators with Edit permission can modify content but not sharing.

Public vs private sharing

Private notes

  • Default setting: All new notes start as Private
  • Access: Only you can view and edit
  • Security: Not accessible via direct link or search
  • Best for: Personal notes, drafts, sensitive information

Shared notes

  • Selective access: Only invited users can access
  • Controlled permissions: Set View or Edit for each user
  • Real-time collaboration: Edit permission enables live collaboration
  • Best for: Team projects, collaborative documents, shared information

Public notes

  • Open access: Anyone with the link can view
  • Featured visibility: Appears in the featured notes section
  • Read-only for public: Public viewers cannot edit (only invited users with Edit permission can modify)
  • Best for: Published content, shared resources, public documentation
Changing from Private to Public makes your note discoverable. Change back to Private if you want to restrict access again.

Managing shared access

As the note owner, you can manage who has access:

Viewing current collaborators

Open the Share menu to see:
  • List of all users with access
  • Their current permission level (View or Edit)
  • When they were granted access

Changing permissions

1

Open share settings

Click the Share button to open the sharing menu.
2

Find the user

Locate the user whose permissions you want to change in the collaborators list.
3

Update permission level

Click on their current permission level and select the new level (View or Edit).
4

Save changes

The permission change takes effect immediately. The user will notice the change the next time they access the note.

Removing access

To revoke someone’s access to your note:
  1. Open the Share menu
  2. Find the user in the collaborators list
  3. Click the remove or delete icon next to their name
  4. Confirm the removal
When you remove a user’s access, they will no longer be able to open the note. If they currently have it open, they’ll lose access when they refresh.

Understanding access levels

Here’s how access is determined:
  • Owner: Full control - can edit, share, change visibility, and delete
  • Shared with Edit: Can modify content and collaborate in real-time
  • Shared with View: Can read and comment but not edit
  • Public viewers: Can read if note is Public, but cannot edit or comment
Start with View permission when sharing with new collaborators. You can always upgrade to Edit permission later if needed.

Sharing best practices

  • Review before sharing: Ensure your note is ready before granting access
  • Use View for feedback: When you want input without direct edits
  • Use Edit for collaboration: When working together on content
  • Regular access audits: Periodically review who has access and remove those who no longer need it
  • Be cautious with Public: Only make notes Public if you’re comfortable with open access
