Passkeys are the primary authentication method for your Ave account. You can manage multiple passkeys across different devices for flexible access.

What Are Passkeys?

Passkeys use WebAuthn technology to authenticate you without passwords:
  • Biometric: Touch ID, Face ID, or fingerprint sensors
  • Device PIN: Your device unlock code as a fallback
  • Hardware Security: Keys are stored in secure hardware (TPM, Secure Enclave)
  • Phishing-Resistant: Only work on legitimate Ave domains

Viewing Your Passkeys

To see all your registered passkeys:
1

Navigate to Security Settings

Go to DashboardSecurity from the sidebar.
2

View Passkey List

You’ll see all your passkeys with:
  • Passkey name
  • Device type (single-device or multi-device)
  • Creation date
  • Last used timestamp

Adding a New Passkey

Add passkeys for additional devices or browsers:
1

Start Adding Passkey

From the Security page, click Add a new passkey.
2

Authenticate

Your browser will prompt you to create a passkey:
  • On iOS/Mac: Use Touch ID or Face ID
  • On Windows: Use Windows Hello (fingerprint, face, or PIN)
  • On Android: Use fingerprint or device PIN
Follow your device’s prompts to complete authentication.
3

Name Your Passkey

Give your passkey a descriptive name to identify it later, such as:
  • “MacBook Pro Touch ID”
  • “iPhone Face ID”
  • “Windows Desktop”
  • “Work Laptop”
Click Save when done.
Your new passkey is immediately active. You can use it to sign in on your next login.

Renaming a Passkey

Give your passkeys more descriptive names:
1

Open Passkey Settings

Navigate to DashboardSecurity.
2

Edit Passkey Name

Click the edit icon next to the passkey you want to rename.
3

Save New Name

Enter a new descriptive name and click Save.

Removing a Passkey

Delete passkeys you no longer use:
1

Select Passkey

From the Security page, find the passkey you want to remove.
2

Delete Passkey

Click the delete icon next to the passkey.
3

Confirm Deletion

Confirm that you want to remove this passkey.
You cannot delete your only passkey. You must have at least one passkey to maintain access to your account.
After deletion, this passkey will no longer work for signing in to your Ave account.

Passkey Types

Device-Bound Passkeys

Stored on a specific device:
  • Pros: Most secure, hardware-protected
  • Cons: Only works on that specific device
  • Examples: Windows Hello, Android device passkeys

Synced Passkeys

Synced across devices through your ecosystem:
  • Pros: Works on multiple devices automatically
  • Cons: Depends on your ecosystem (Apple, Google, Microsoft)
  • Examples: iCloud Keychain (Apple), Google Password Manager
Whether your passkey is device-bound or synced depends on your operating system and browser settings, not Ave.

Passkey Best Practices

Register Multiple Passkeys

Set up passkeys on different devices:
  • Your primary computer
  • Your smartphone
  • A backup device
This ensures you can always access your account even if one device is unavailable.

Use Descriptive Names

Name passkeys clearly to identify them later:
  • ✅ “Personal iPhone 14”
  • ✅ “Work MacBook Pro M2”
  • ❌ “Passkey 1”
  • ❌ “New Passkey”

Remove Old Passkeys

When you replace or stop using a device:
  1. Add a passkey on your new device first
  2. Verify the new passkey works by signing in
  3. Remove the old device’s passkey
Always add a new passkey before removing your last one. If you delete all passkeys, you’ll need to use trust code recovery to regain access.

Troubleshooting

Browser Doesn’t Show Passkey Prompt

  • Ensure you’re using a modern browser (Chrome, Edge, Safari, Firefox)
  • Verify you’re on HTTPS or localhost
  • Check that your device supports WebAuthn
  • Try a different browser

Passkey Not Recognized

If a passkey doesn’t work:
  • Verify you’re using the correct device or browser
  • Check if the passkey was registered on a different browser profile
  • Ensure the passkey hasn’t been deleted
  • Try using a trust code instead

Can’t Delete Last Passkey

This is intentional security protection:
  • You must have at least one passkey
  • Add a new passkey first
  • Then remove the old one
