Gitlantis provides extensive customization options to tailor your navigation experience. Settings are organized into logical categories and persist between sessions.

Accessing Settings

Settings can be accessed through the in-game settings modal. All changes are automatically saved and persisted to your local configuration.
Settings are stored either in VS Code’s extension storage or browser localStorage depending on your environment.

Settings Categories

Gitlantis organizes settings into the following tabs:

General

Customize the visual and audio experience:
  • Display: Control what information is shown (minimap, breadcrumbs, compass)
  • Boat colors: Personalize your boat’s appearance with custom colors
  • Audio: Adjust volume levels
  • Guides: Configure what file types to explore

Behavior

Fine-tune how your boat moves and responds:
  • Navigation: Control speed, acceleration, deceleration, and turning
  • Floating: Adjust rocking and bobbing animations
  • Collision: Configure impact radius and deflection strength

Keybindings

View and understand the control scheme:
  • Navigation controls: WASD and arrow key mappings
  • Special keys: Actions like opening files, sounding the horn, and toggling fullscreen

Danger Zone

Reset all settings to their factory defaults:
  • Restore default settings: Revert all customizations
Restoring defaults will permanently erase all your customized settings. This action cannot be undone.

Persistence

All setting changes are automatically persisted when modified. The settings system:
  • Saves immediately on change
  • Works in both VS Code extension and standalone browser modes
  • Loads automatically when Gitlantis starts
  • Merges custom settings with defaults to ensure compatibility with new versions
