Quick Start Guide

This guide will help you get up and running with Namida in just a few minutes. Letโ€™s start playing your favorite music!

First Launch

Open Namida

Launch Namida for the first time. Youโ€™ll see an onboarding screen with configuration options.Namida Settings

Grant Storage Permission

Namida needs access to your device storage to scan and play your music files.
When prompted, tap Allow to grant storage permissions:
  • Files and media (Android 13+)
  • Storage (Android 12 and below)
For advanced features like tag editing and downloads, you may need to grant โ€œAll files accessโ€ later.

Configure Music Folders

Tell Namida where your music files are located:
  1. Go to Settings โ†’ Indexer
  2. Tap Folders to Scan
  3. Add folders containing your music:
    • Android: Usually /storage/emulated/0/Music or /sdcard/Music
    • Windows: Usually C:\Users\YourName\Music
    • Linux: Usually ~/Music or /home/username/Music
Namida automatically suggests common music folder locations. By default, it includes the Music and Download folders.

Wait for Indexing

Namida will scan your folders and index all music files. This may take a few moments depending on your library size.
The indexer reads metadata from your audio files (title, artist, album, artwork, etc.) and organizes them in the library.

Exploring Your Library

Once indexing is complete, youโ€™ll see your music organized in several views:

Browse by artist

Use the navigation drawer (swipe from left or tap โ˜ฐ) to switch between different library views.

Playing Your First Track

Find a Song

Navigate to Tracks view to see all your music. You can:
  • Scroll through the list
  • Use the search icon ๐Ÿ” at the top
  • Sort by tapping the sort button

Tap to Play

Simply tap any track to start playing. The miniplayer will appear at the bottom.
Long-press a track to see more options like adding to queue, playlist, or viewing info.

Use the Player

Swipe up on the miniplayer to expand it to full screen. Here you can:
  • See album artwork
  • View lyrics (if available)
  • Adjust equalizer settings
  • Control playback speed and pitch
  • See waveform visualization

Essential Player Controls

Miniplayer Controls

The bottom miniplayer shows:
  • Play/Pause button
  • Previous/Next track buttons
  • Track progress bar (tap to seek)
  • Album artwork (tap to expand player)
  • Queue icon (see whatโ€™s playing next)

Full Player Gestures

Namida supports intuitive gestures for quick control:
  • Swipe down: Minimize player
  • Swipe left/right: Skip to next/previous track
  • Double-tap artwork: Toggle lyrics view
  • Long-press artwork: Custom action (configurable)
  • Tap progress bar: Seek to position

Creating Your First Playlist

Select Tracks

Long-press on a track to enter selection mode, then tap other tracks to select multiple songs.

Add to Playlist

Tap the + icon at the top, then select Add to Playlist โ†’ Create New Playlist.

Name Your Playlist

Enter a name for your playlist and tap Create.
You can set custom artwork for playlists by opening the playlist and tapping the artwork.

Exploring YouTube Features

One of Namidaโ€™s standout features is seamless YouTube integration.

Access YouTube Tab

Open the navigation drawer and tap YouTube to switch to YouTube mode.

Search for Music

Tap the search icon and enter a song name, artist, or video title.

Stream or Download

  • Tap a video to stream it instantly
  • Long-press to see download options
  • Choose audio-only or video+audio format
Downloaded content is cached locally for offline playback!

Manage Cache

Go to Settings โ†’ YouTube โ†’ Cache to manage downloaded content and set cache limits.

Customizing Your Experience

Namida offers extensive customization options:

Theme Settings

Open Theme Settings

Go to Settings โ†’ Theme

Choose Theme Mode

Select from:
  • Light
  • Dark
  • Black (AMOLED)
  • System (auto)

Enable Dynamic Colors

Toggle Auto Coloring to have the player interface adapt to album artwork colors.
Dynamic theming makes each song feel unique by extracting colors from the artwork!

Essential Settings to Configure

  • Crossfade Duration: Smooth transitions between tracks (0-12 seconds)
  • Replay Gain: Normalize volume across different tracks
  • Skip Silence: Automatically skip silent parts
  • Play Speed: Adjust default playback speed

  • YouTube Audio Quality: Set preferred quality (high/medium/low)
  • Data Saver Mode: Reduce bandwidth usage
  • Audio Only Mode: Download only audio from YouTube videos
Settings โ†’ Customization
  • Miniplayer Style: Compact or card style
  • Waveform: Enable animated waveform on player
  • Particles Effect: Visual effects synchronized with music
  • Grid Count: Adjust album grid size
Settings โ†’ Lyrics
  • Auto-Fetch Lyrics: Automatically download lyrics from online sources
  • Synced Lyrics: Show time-synced lyrics during playback
  • Lyrics Source: Choose preferred lyrics provider

Smart Features to Try

Sleep Timer

Set Namida to stop playing after a certain duration:
  1. Open the player
  2. Tap the โ‹ฎ (more) menu
  3. Select Sleep Timer
  4. Choose duration or number of tracks

Smart Track Generation

Namida can generate intelligent playlists based on your listening habits!
  1. Open any track
  2. Tap โ‹ฎ (more) menu
  3. Select Add to Queue โ†’ Recommended Tracks
  4. Namida will add tracks you usually listen to around the same time
Other generation options:
  • Similar Release Date: Tracks from the same era
  • Most Played: Your top tracks from a specific period
  • Random: Surprise me!

History Tracking

Namida keeps detailed listening history:
  1. Open navigation drawer
  2. Tap History
  3. Browse by day, week, or month
  4. See listening statistics and patterns
You can import your YouTube and Last.fm listening history to get complete statistics!

Tips & Tricks

Select multiple tracks โ†’ โ‹ฎ menu โ†’ Edit Tags to edit metadata for multiple files at once.
Settings โ†’ Customization โ†’ Swipe Actions - Configure what happens when you swipe left or right on tracks.
Namida can automatically match local videos to your music! Place video files with matching names in your music folders.
  • Swipe up from miniplayer to see the queue
  • Drag to reorder tracks
  • Swipe track left/right to remove from queue
  • Long-press for more options
Windows/Linux users:
  • Space: Play/Pause
  • โ†’/โ†: Next/Previous track
  • Ctrl+F: Search
  • Ctrl+L: Toggle lyrics

Troubleshooting Common Issues

  1. Check Settings โ†’ Indexer โ†’ Folders to Scan
  2. Ensure folders contain supported audio files
  3. Tap Re-scan to force a fresh index
  4. Check file permissions on your music folder

  3. Ensure track has proper metadata (title/artist)
  4. Try manually adding lyrics from the track menu
