Overview

Vitu’s Exercise feature automatically tracks your physical activity throughout the day using your device’s sensors and GPS. It counts your steps, detects whether you’re walking or running, and intelligently ignores step counts when you’re in a vehicle traveling faster than 15 km/h.

How to Use

1

Grant Permissions

When you first open the Exercise screen, Vitu will request:
  • Location services: To measure your speed and detect vehicle movement
  • Motion sensors: To count steps from accelerometer data
Accept these permissions for the feature to work properly.
2

Keep App Open (or Running in Background)

The app actively monitors your movement while on the Exercise screen. Your step count updates in real-time as you move.
For continuous tracking throughout the day, keep the app running in the background or return to the Exercise tab periodically to sync your count.
3

Monitor Your Activity

The screen displays:
  • Current step count for today
  • Progress percentage toward your 10,000-step daily goal
  • Current activity type (walking, running, stationary, or in vehicle)
  • Current speed in km/h
  • Real-time cardio chart showing step bursts every 10 seconds
4

Pause When Needed

Tap the “Pausar” button to temporarily stop counting steps. This is useful if you’re moving around but don’t want to count it (e.g., pacing while on a phone call).Tap “Reanudar” to continue tracking.

What Data is Tracked

Daily Metrics

  • Steps: Total number of steps detected today
  • Speed: Current movement speed in kilometers per hour
  • Activity Type:
    • Caminando (Walking): Speed < 6 km/h with movement
    • Corriendo (Running): Speed 6-12 km/h with strong movement
    • Parado (Stationary): Speed < 0.5 km/h
    • En vehículo (In Vehicle): Speed > 15 km/h
When you’re detected as “En vehículo,” step counting is automatically paused to prevent false counts from bumpy roads or vibrations.

Historical Data

Vitu stores your step count for the past 7 days, allowing you to see your weekly activity trends.

How Results Are Displayed

Main Progress Circle

At the top of the screen, a large circular progress indicator shows:
  • Percentage completed of your 10,000-step daily goal
  • Total steps today in large text
  • Color-coded by your theme’s seed color

Activity Status Bar

Below the main circle, you’ll see:
  • An icon representing your current activity (walking, running, vehicle, or stationary)
  • Your activity label in Spanish
  • Current speed in km/h
  • Estimated calories burned (calculated as steps × 0.04)

Real-Time Cardio Chart

The app displays a line chart that updates every 10 seconds, showing:
  • Number of steps taken in each 10-second interval
  • Up to the last 10 minutes of data (60 data points maximum)
  • Smooth, curved line with shaded area underneath
This chart helps you see your activity intensity in real-time.

Weekly Bar Chart

Scroll down to see a bar chart showing your daily step counts for the past 7 days (Monday through Sunday):
  • Each bar represents one day
  • Height corresponds to total steps that day (max scale: 12,000 steps)
  • Days are labeled: L, M, X, J, V, S, D

Exercise Routine Suggestions

At the bottom of the Exercise screen, you’ll find three quick-access tiles:

1. Fuerza (Strength Training)

Tap “Empezar” to get AI-generated strength workout suggestions personalized to your age, gender, weight, and height.

2. Yoga

Tap “Empezar” for yoga session recommendations tailored to your profile.

3. Estiramientos (Stretching)

Tap “Empezar” to receive stretching routines designed for your body.
Each routine type generates 4 complete workout sessions with detailed exercises, sets/reps, duration, and descriptions—all powered by Google Gemini AI.

Viewing Routine Details

When you tap a routine:
  1. You’ll see a list of 4 suggested sessions
  2. Tap any session to view:
    • Session name and duration
    • Full list of exercises with series/reps or time
    • Descriptions for each exercise
  3. Sessions are generated fresh each time, so you get variety!

Tips for Best Results

Allow Background Location

For the most accurate vehicle detection:
  • Grant “Allow all the time” or “Allow while using the app” location permission
  • Enable high-accuracy GPS in your device settings

Keep Your Phone on You

The accelerometer detects steps based on your phone’s movement, so:
  • Carry your phone in your pocket, bag, or use an armband
  • Holding it in your hand works, but pocket placement is more accurate

Understand Step Sensitivity

Vitu uses different thresholds for step detection:
  • Walking threshold: Accelerometer magnitude > 0.9
  • Running threshold: Accelerometer magnitude > 1.4
  • Debounce timing: 320-450 milliseconds between steps (to avoid double-counting)
Steps are saved to local storage every 10 steps, so even if the app crashes, you won’t lose much progress.

Daily Reset

Your step count automatically resets to zero at midnight each day. Previous days’ data is preserved in the weekly chart.

How Vehicle Detection Works

Vitu’s smart vehicle detection prevents false step counts:
  1. GPS Speed Monitoring: The app continuously checks your movement speed
  2. 15 km/h Threshold: If speed exceeds 15 km/h, you’re marked as “En vehículo”
  3. Step Blocking: While in vehicle mode, accelerometer events are ignored
  4. Automatic Resume: When speed drops below 15 km/h, step counting resumes
If you’re cycling or on a fast electric scooter (>15 km/h), steps won’t be counted. This is intentional to prevent false positives.

Understanding Your Activity Types

Stationary (Parado)

  • Speed < 0.5 km/h
  • You’re standing still or sitting
  • Icon: Meditation pose

Walking (Caminando)

  • Speed: 0.5-6 km/h
  • Moderate movement detected
  • Icon: Walking person

Running (Corriendo)

  • Speed: 6-12 km/h
  • Strong movement with high accelerometer magnitude (>1.4)
  • Icon: Running person

In Vehicle (En vehículo)

  • Speed > 15 km/h
  • Steps are not counted
  • Icon: Car
  • Status shows in gray to indicate paused counting

Troubleshooting

”Activa el servicio de ubicación”

Your device’s location services are turned off. Go to Settings > Location and enable it.

”Permiso de ubicación”

You denied location permission. Go to Settings > Apps > Vitu > Permissions and grant location access.

Steps Not Counting

  • Ensure you’re moving with your phone
  • Check that the app isn’t paused (look for “Pausar” button, not “Reanudar”)
  • Verify you’re not marked as “En vehículo” (which blocks counting)

Steps Counting While Driving

If steps are being counted in a car:
  • Ensure location permission is granted
  • Check that GPS is enabled and has a signal
  • The 15 km/h threshold may not be reached in slow city traffic

Weekly Chart Shows Zero

Data is stored locally. If you recently installed the app or cleared data, historical counts will be empty until you accumulate new daily records.
