Overview

OddsEngine helps you analyze individual tennis match bets by calculating win probabilities based on player statistics, historical performance, and current form. This guide walks you through selecting matches, viewing probability calculations, and interpreting results.

Selecting a Match to Analyze

1

Access the match selection view

Open the OddsEngine desktop application and navigate to the Matches tab in the main window. You’ll see a list of upcoming ATP and WTA tournament matches.
2

Filter matches by tournament or date

Use the filter controls at the top of the match list to narrow down matches:
  • Select a specific tournament from the Tournament dropdown
  • Choose a date range using the Date Filter controls
  • Filter by tour level (ATP/WTA) using the Tour selector
3

Select a match for analysis

Click on any match row to select it. The match details panel will display:
  • Player names and rankings
  • Match date and time
  • Tournament information
  • Surface type (hard, clay, grass)

Viewing Probability Calculations

Once you’ve selected a match, OddsEngine calculates win probabilities for each player based on multiple statistical factors.

Understanding the Probability Display

The probability panel shows:
  • Player A Win Probability: Percentage likelihood that Player A wins the match
  • Player B Win Probability: Percentage likelihood that Player B wins the match
  • Confidence Level: Statistical confidence in the calculation (Low, Medium, High)
  • Data Completeness: Indicator of available historical data quality
Probabilities always sum to 100%. A 65% probability for Player A means 35% for Player B.

Key Statistical Factors

Click Show Details to view the underlying factors influencing the probability:
Historical performance between the two players, including:
  • Win/loss record in previous matchups
  • Performance on the current surface type
  • Recent form in head-to-head encounters
Recent performance metrics:
  • Win rate in last 10 matches
  • Performance in current tournament
  • Ranking trajectory (improving or declining)
Player effectiveness on the match surface:
  • Career win percentage on surface (hard, clay, grass)
  • Recent matches on same surface
  • Surface-specific strengths and weaknesses
Performance at similar tournament tiers:
  • Grand Slam vs ATP/WTA tour events
  • Masters/Premier level consistency
  • Challenger/ITF results (if applicable)

Interpreting Results

Probability Ranges

Understand what different probability ranges indicate:
ProbabilityInterpretationAction
50-55%Evenly matched playersHigh risk bet - avoid or bet small
56-65%Slight advantageModerate confidence - consider context
66-75%Clear favoriteGood confidence level - verify factors
76-85%Strong favoriteHigh confidence - check for value
86%+Overwhelming favoriteVery low risk but check odds value
High probability doesn’t always mean good value. Compare OddsEngine’s probabilities with bookmaker odds to identify value bets.

Confidence Indicators

Pay attention to the confidence level:
  • High Confidence: Extensive historical data, recent matchups, consistent performance
  • Medium Confidence: Adequate data but gaps in specific conditions
  • Low Confidence: Limited head-to-head data, infrequent surface matchups, or volatile player form
Use the Data Completeness indicator to assess reliability. Green means comprehensive data, yellow indicates some gaps, red signals insufficient data.

Common Scenarios

Analyzing a Grand Slam Match

For major tournaments like Grand Slams:
  • OddsEngine factors in best-of-five format vs best-of-three
  • Player stamina and performance in longer matches affects calculations
  • Historical Grand Slam performance carries more weight

Early Round vs Finals

OddsEngine adjusts calculations based on tournament stage:
  • Early rounds may show higher variability
  • Finals often feature more predictable matchups
  • Player motivation differs by round (ranking points, prize money)

Handling Missing Data

When OddsEngine shows Low Confidence or incomplete data:
1

Check data sources

Click Data Sources to see which information is available and which is missing
2

Review manual factors

Consider factors OddsEngine can’t quantify:
  • Recent injuries or illness
  • Personal circumstances
  • Tournament importance to player
3

Adjust your confidence

Use the Manual Override slider to adjust the probability based on your research
Manual overrides are not saved in historical accuracy tracking. Use them sparingly and document your reasoning.
