Overview

GitFolio offers multiple professionally designed templates to showcase your work. This guide explains how to browse, preview, and activate templates for your portfolio.

Access templates

Navigate to Templates

From your dashboard, click Templates in the sidebar navigation. This opens the template gallery where you can browse all available options.

Browse available templates

The template gallery displays all templates in a grid layout. Each template card shows:
  • Template preview images (light and dark modes)
  • Template name
  • Category (e.g., Modern, Minimal, Creative)
  • Pricing information (free or premium)

Template categories

GitFolio templates are organized into categories to help you find the right style:

Modern

Contemporary designs with bold typography and vibrant colors

Minimal

Clean, simple layouts that focus on content

Professional

Classic, business-oriented designs

Creative

Unique, artistic layouts for designers and artists

Preview a template

Select a template to preview

Click on any template card to open the detailed preview view.

View template details

The preview page shows:
  • Full-screen template previews
  • Light and dark mode variations
  • Responsive design previews (desktop, tablet, mobile)
  • Template features and included sections
  • Pricing details

Return to gallery

Click Back to Templates to return to the template gallery and browse other options.

Activate a template

Free templates

Select your template

From the template preview page, click the Select Template or Activate button.

Confirm activation

The template will be immediately applied to your portfolio. You’ll see a success message confirming the change.

Preview your portfolio

Click Preview in the dashboard sidebar to see your portfolio with the new template.

Premium templates

Premium templates require a one-time purchase or active subscription depending on your account type.

Select a premium template

Click on a premium template to view its details and pricing.

Purchase template

Click Purchase Template to proceed to checkout.
  • Review pricing in USD or INR
  • Complete payment through the secure Razorpay gateway
  • Template is added to your account immediately

Activate purchased template

After purchase, the template appears in your available templates. Click Select Template to activate it.

Switch between templates

You can change your active template at any time:

Open Templates

Navigate to Templates from your dashboard sidebar.

Select new template

Browse and select a different template you own (free or purchased).

Activate

Click Select Template to make it active.
Changing templates will update how your content is displayed but won’t delete any of your data. All your projects, experience, education, and skills remain intact.

Template customization options

While templates control the overall design, you can customize how your content appears:

What you can customize

  • Content visibility - Choose which sections to display (projects, experience, education, skills)
  • Project selection - Select which repositories appear in your portfolio
  • Profile information - Update bio, tagline, location, and social links
  • Skills display - Add or remove skills shown in your portfolio
  • Color scheme - Most templates support both light and dark modes

What is controlled by the template

  • Layout structure - Section arrangement and spacing
  • Typography - Font families and sizes
  • Color palette - Primary, secondary, and accent colors
  • Component design - Button styles, card layouts, animations
Template customization happens automatically based on your content. Update your profile, projects, and other content from the respective dashboard sections.

Preview your portfolio

Before publishing, always preview your portfolio to see how it looks:

Open preview

Click Preview in the dashboard sidebar.

Review your portfolio

The preview shows your live portfolio with:
  • Current active template
  • All your content as it will appear to visitors
  • Responsive design for different screen sizes

Test interactions

  • Click through project links
  • Test social media buttons
  • Verify all sections display correctly
  • Check both light and dark modes (if supported)

Portfolio URL structure

Your portfolio is accessible at: 
https://gitfolio.com/portfolio/[your-username]
The template you select controls how content is rendered at this URL.
Your username is set during onboarding and automatically converted to lowercase. It can be updated from the Personal Info section of your dashboard.

Troubleshooting

Solution:
  1. Ensure you clicked the activation button after selecting the template
  2. Check that you received a success confirmation message
  3. Clear your browser cache and reload the preview
  4. Verify your activeTemplateId is set in the Overview section
Possible causes:
  • Payment processing error
  • Invalid payment information
  • Currency mismatch
Solution:
  1. Verify your payment details are correct
  2. Ensure your payment method supports international transactions
  3. Try a different payment method
  4. Contact support if the issue persists
Possible causes:
  • Missing content in certain sections
  • Browser compatibility issues
  • Cached version being displayed
Solution:
  1. Ensure all required content sections are filled out
  2. Clear browser cache and hard reload (Ctrl+Shift+R or Cmd+Shift+R)
  3. Try viewing in a different browser
  4. Add content to empty sections for best results
This is expected behavior. Premium templates require an active subscription or one-time purchase.Solution:
  • Renew your subscription to regain access to all premium templates
  • Purchase the specific template with a one-time payment
  • Switch to a free template you own
