Overview

User Management allows administrators to create user accounts, assign roles and permissions, and manage personal information for everyone who accesses the SGIVU platform.

Managing Users

Creating a New User

1

Navigate to User Management

From the main dashboard, access the User Management section. You must have the user:create permission to create new users.
2

Enter Personal Information

Fill in the user’s personal details:
  • Full name (first and last name)
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Address information
  • Date of birth

  • No common patterns
4

Assign Roles

Select one or more roles for the user. Roles determine what features and data the user can access. Common roles include:
  • Admin: Full system access
  • Manager: Can manage inventory and transactions
  • Sales: Can view and create purchase/sale contracts
  • Viewer: Read-only access to data
5

Save and Activate

Review all information and save the new user account. The user can now log in with their credentials.

Updating User Information

Edit User Details

You can update user information at any time by searching for the user and selecting the edit option. Changes to personal information, roles, or permissions take effect immediately.

Searching for Users

SGIVU provides powerful search capabilities:

By Username

Search for users by their username for quick access to their profile.

By Email

Find users by their registered email address.

By Name

Search by first name or last name to locate specific individuals.

Advanced Filters

Combine multiple criteria to narrow down your search results.

Roles and Permissions

Understanding Roles

Roles are predefined sets of permissions that determine what users can do in SGIVU. Each role contains multiple permissions grouped by feature area.

Permission Types

Permissions in SGIVU follow a consistent pattern across all modules:
  • user:create - Create new user accounts
  • user:read - View user information
  • user:update - Modify user details
  • user:delete - Remove user accounts
  • vehicle:create - Add new vehicles to inventory
  • vehicle:read - View vehicle information
  • vehicle:update - Modify vehicle details
  • vehicle:delete - Remove vehicles from system
  • person:create / company:create - Add new clients
  • person:read / company:read - View client information
  • person:update / company:update - Modify client details
  • person:delete / company:delete - Remove clients
  • purchase-sale:create - Create purchase/sale contracts
  • purchase-sale:read - View contract details
  • purchase-sale:update - Modify contract information
  • purchase-sale:delete - Cancel or remove contracts

Managing Roles

1

View Available Roles

Navigate to the Roles section to see all defined roles in the system and their associated permissions.
2

Assign Roles to Users

When creating or editing a user, select the appropriate roles. Users can have multiple roles, and their effective permissions will be the combination of all assigned roles.
3

Review Permissions

Regularly audit user roles and permissions to ensure users have appropriate access levels for their responsibilities.

Personal Information Management

Address Information

Store complete address details for users including:
  • Street address
  • City
  • State/Province
  • Postal code
  • Country

Address Validation

The system validates address information to ensure data quality and consistency across the platform.

Security Considerations

Password Strength

SGIVU enforces strong password requirements to protect user accounts. Passwords must meet minimum complexity standards.

Character Validation

Special character validation ensures usernames and personal information follow consistent formatting rules.

Principle of Least Privilege

Only grant users the minimum permissions required to perform their job functions.

Regular Audits

Periodically review user accounts, roles, and access patterns to maintain security.

Troubleshooting

Verify you have the user:create permission. Check that all required fields are filled correctly and the username is unique.
Hover over the password field for detailed requirements. Passwords must include uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and special characters.
Log out and log back in for permission changes to take effect. If issues persist, verify the role contains the necessary permissions.
Try broader search terms or check your filter settings. Ensure you have permission to view the users you’re searching for.
