Overview
Neuron Meet provides powerful video and audio controls that let you manage your camera and microphone during meetings. Whether you’re joining from a desktop or mobile device, you have full control over your media settings.Before Joining a Meeting
Before entering a meeting room, you’ll see a preview screen that lets you test and configure your audio and video settings.Pre-Join Setup
Access the Pre-Join Screen
When you click a meeting link or enter a room code, you’ll be taken to the pre-join screen where you can see a live preview of your camera.
Test Your Camera
You’ll see yourself in the video preview. If your camera is working, you should see a live video feed (mirrored for a natural preview experience).
Test Your Microphone
Speak to ensure your microphone is working. Check your device settings if you don’t see audio levels.
Choose Your Devices (Optional)
Click the Settings icon to select specific camera and microphone devices if you have multiple options available.
On the pre-join screen, guests must enter their name before joining. Authenticated users will see their display name automatically.
Device Selection
If you have multiple cameras or microphones connected to your device:- Click the Settings (gear) icon on the pre-join screen
- Select your preferred Camera from the dropdown
- Select your preferred Microphone from the dropdown
- The preview will update instantly to show the selected devices
During the Meeting
Once you’re in a meeting, you have real-time control over your audio and video from the control bar at the bottom of the screen.Video Controls
Toggle Camera On/Off- Click the camera button in the control bar
- Keyboard shortcut: Press V
- When your camera is off:
- Other participants see your avatar with your initials
- The camera button turns red
- You save bandwidth
- On (blue button): Your live video is visible to all participants
- Off (red button): Participants see your avatar instead of video
Audio Controls
Toggle Microphone On/Off- Click the microphone button in the control bar
- Keyboard shortcut: Press M
- When muted:
- A red microphone icon appears on your video tile
- The microphone button turns red
- Other participants can see you’re muted in the participants panel
- Unmuted (blue button): Your audio is transmitted to all participants
- Muted (red button): No audio is transmitted, and a muted indicator appears
Meeting hosts can mute individual participants. If you’re muted by a host, you’ll receive a notification and your microphone will be turned off.
Visual Indicators
Neuron Meet provides several visual cues to help you understand audio and video status:Speaking Indicator
- When you or another participant speaks, a green ring appears around their video tile
- A “Speaking” badge shows at the top-left of the active speaker’s tile
- This helps identify who’s talking, especially in larger meetings
Muted Indicator
- A red microphone with a slash icon appears on video tiles when someone is muted
- Also visible in the participants panel
Camera Off Indicator
- When someone’s camera is off, you see their avatar with initials instead of video
- A small camera-off icon may appear in the participants panel
Your Own Tile
- Your video tile shows “(You)” next to your name
- Your video preview is mirrored (horizontally flipped) for a natural self-view
- Other participants see you non-mirrored

Mobile Experience
On mobile devices, the video and audio controls work the same way but are optimized for touch:- Larger touch targets for easier tapping
- Camera preview is still mirrored in the pre-join screen
- Control bar remains accessible at the bottom of the screen
- Swipe or tap to access chat and participants panels
Best Practices
Mute When Not Speaking
Reduce background noise by muting yourself when you’re not actively speaking, especially in larger meetings.
Test Before Important Meetings
Use the pre-join screen to verify your camera and microphone are working properly before critical calls.
Use Good Lighting
Position yourself facing a light source for better video quality. Avoid having bright windows behind you.

Use the pre-join preview to ensure your background is appropriate for the meeting.

- Check that your browser has permission to access your camera
- Verify no other application is using your camera
- Try refreshing the page and rejoining
- Check device settings in the pre-join screen
- Ensure your camera is properly connected (for external cameras)

- Verify browser permissions for microphone access
- Check system audio settings and ensure the correct device is selected
- Test microphone in other applications to rule out hardware issues
- Try selecting a different microphone in the device settings
Poor Video Quality

- Check your internet connection speed
- Close other applications using bandwidth
- Ensure good lighting in your environment
- Consider turning off your camera temporarily to improve audio quality on slow connections

- Use headphones to prevent audio feedback
- Ask other participants to mute when not speaking
- Check for multiple devices/tabs connected to the same meeting
Privacy & Security
- Your camera and microphone are never accessed without your explicit permission
- You have full control to turn off video and audio at any time
- When your camera is off, no video data is transmitted
- When muted, no audio data is transmitted
- All media streams use encrypted WebRTC connections
