Overview

Flow Browser offers extensive customization options to make your browsing experience truly yours. From visual themes to workflow organization, you can tailor every aspect of the browser to match your preferences.

Spaces

Spaces are Flow Browser’s most powerful organizational feature, allowing you to maintain separate browsing contexts for different projects, purposes, or moods.

Creating a New Space

Open Settings

Navigate to Settings > Spaces or press Cmd/Ctrl + , and select the Spaces section.

Create Space

Click the Create New Space button to start the space creation wizard.

Name Your Space

Enter a meaningful name for your space:
  • Work
  • Personal
  • Research
  • Shopping
  • Gaming
Choose a name that clearly identifies the purpose of this browsing context.

Select an Icon

Choose an icon that visually represents your space. Flow Browser provides a variety of icons to match different contexts and preferences.

Choose Colors

Customize your space’s color scheme:
  • Primary color for the space theme
  • Accent colors for UI elements
  • Choose from preset color palettes or create custom combinations
The colors you select will be applied to the sidebar, tabs, and other UI elements when this space is active.

Editing an Existing Space

To modify a space after creation:
  1. Go to Settings > Spaces
  2. Find the space you want to edit
  3. Click the Edit button on the space card
  4. Modify the name, icon, or colors
  5. Click Save to apply your changes

Deleting a Space

Deleting a space will close all tabs within that space. This action cannot be undone.
To delete a space:
  1. Navigate to Settings > Spaces
  2. Locate the space you want to remove
  3. Click the Delete button
  4. Confirm the deletion when prompted
You cannot delete your only remaining space. Flow Browser requires at least one active space at all times.

Space Profiles

Spaces are associated with profiles, which determine:
  • Cookie storage
  • Cache data
  • Local storage
  • Session information
  • Installed extensions
Different spaces can share the same profile or use separate profiles for complete isolation.

Changing the Browser Icon

Open Icon Settings

Navigate to Settings > Icon to access the icon customization page.

Browse Available Icons

Flow Browser includes multiple icon designs created by various artists. Each icon shows:
  • Preview image
  • Icon name
  • Artist credit

Select Your Preferred Icon

Click on an icon to select it. The change is applied immediately to your system.

Verify the Change

Check your taskbar, dock, or application launcher to see the new icon in action.
Icon customization is supported on macOS and Windows. On Linux, support varies depending on your desktop environment.

Theme Customization

Space-Level Themes

Each space can have its own color theme, automatically applied when you switch to that space:
  • Light Mode: Choose bright colors for a clean, minimalist look
  • Dark Mode: Select darker colors for reduced eye strain
  • Custom Themes: Mix and match colors to create unique combinations

System Theme Integration

Flow Browser respects your system’s theme preferences:
  • Automatically switches between light and dark modes based on system settings
  • Space colors adapt to the current theme mode
  • Custom overrides available in Settings

New Tab Customization

New Tab Mode

Configure how new tabs open:
New tabs open with the command palette (omnibox) focused, allowing immediate typing for search or navigation.Best for: Power users who prefer keyboard-driven workflows
Change this setting in Settings > General > New Tab Mode. Choose which side of the window displays the sidebar:
Configure in Settings > General > Sidebar Settings. The sidebar includes:
  • Navigation controls (back, forward, reload)
  • Space switcher (quick access to all your spaces)
  • Space title (current space name)
  • Tab list (all tabs in the current space)
  • Space pages carousel (quick access to frequent pages)

Performance Customization

Optimize Flow Browser’s performance for your system:

Tab Sleep Settings

Configure when inactive tabs should sleep to free up memory:

Open Performance Settings

Navigate to Settings > General > Performance Settings

Configure Sleep Duration

Choose when tabs should sleep after inactivity:
  • 5 minutes
  • 10 minutes
  • 30 minutes
  • 1 hour
  • 2 hours
  • 4 hours
  • 8 hours
  • 12 hours
  • 24 hours
  • Never (disable tab sleeping)
Sleeping tabs save memory without losing your place. When you switch back to a sleeping tab, it reloads automatically.

Tab Archive Settings

Automatically archive tabs that haven’t been accessed in a while: Archive after:
  • 12 hours
  • 24 hours
  • 7 days
  • 30 days
  • Never (disable archiving)
Configure in Settings > General > Performance Settings.

Advanced Customization

Content Blocking

Flow Browser includes a built-in content blocker with multiple levels:
No content blocking. All ads, trackers, and other content loads normally.
Configure in Settings > General > Content Blocker.

Auto-Update Settings

Control how Flow Browser handles updates:
  • Enabled: Automatically download and install updates
  • Disabled: Manually check for and install updates
Manage in Settings > General > Auto Update.

Experimental Features

Flow Browser includes experimental features for testing:
Enable Flow Browser’s built-in PDF viewer instead of using the system default.Status: ExperimentalConfigure in Settings > General > Experimental Settings.

Advanced Settings

Advanced settings are intended for power users. Changing these settings may affect browser stability or compatibility.
Re-enable support for Manifest V2 extensions (deprecated by Chrome).Status: Unstable - May cause compatibility issuesSome settings may require a browser restart to take effect.Configure in Settings > General > Advanced Settings.

Keyboard Shortcuts Customization

While Flow Browser includes a comprehensive set of default keyboard shortcuts, you can view and learn all available shortcuts in Settings > Shortcuts.
Custom keyboard shortcut mapping is planned for a future release.

Exporting and Importing Settings

Settings export/import functionality is under development and will be available in a future update.
