Flow Browser provides intuitive navigation controls accessible from the sidebar, combining familiar browser navigation with modern interactions.

Basic Navigation Buttons

The navigation controls are located at the top of the browser sidebar:

Back

Navigate to the previous page in your browsing history

Forward

Move forward in your browsing history

Reload

Refresh the current page
Flow Browser provides advanced navigation history features:

Right-Click History

Right-click the Back or Forward buttons to view your complete navigation history for the current tab.
  • See all previous pages in chronological order
  • Jump directly to any page in your history
  • View page titles for easy identification

Quick Navigation

Click any entry in the history dropdown to navigate directly to that page without stepping through each intermediate page.
The navigation buttons include smooth animations that provide visual feedback when you interact with them.

Command Palette (Omnibox)

The command palette is Flow Browser’s powerful unified input for searching, navigating, and executing actions.

Opening the Command Palette

Press Cmd/Ctrl + L or Cmd/Ctrl + K to open the command palette.

What You Can Do

The command palette supports multiple action types:
Type your search query and press Enter to search using your default search engine.Example: how to bake bread
Your browsing history appears as you type, showing relevant pages you’ve visited before.
  • History entries are marked with a clock icon
  • URL is displayed below the page title
  • Results are sorted by relevance
If a URL is already open in another tab, the command palette will show a “Switch to Tab” action instead of opening a duplicate.
Pedals are quick actions you can trigger from the command palette:
  • Settings - Open browser settings
  • New Window - Open a new browser window
  • Extensions - Manage browser extensions
When you focus the command palette without typing, Flow Browser shows suggested sites and actions based on your browsing patterns.

Command Palette Features

Smart Detection: The command palette automatically determines whether your input is a URL or search query, eliminating the need to manually specify.
Keyboard Navigation:
  • Use and arrow keys to navigate through suggestions
  • Press Enter to select the highlighted suggestion
  • Press Esc to close the command palette
Visual Feedback:
  • Each suggestion type has a unique icon and color
  • The selected suggestion is highlighted for easy identification
  • Action labels (Search, Navigate, Switch to Tab) clarify what will happen

Loading States

Stop Loading

When a page is loading:
  • The reload button transforms into a stop loading button (X icon)
  • Click the stop button to cancel the current page load
  • The button smoothly animates between reload and stop states
The navigation controls show animated feedback when you interact with them, providing a modern and responsive feel.

Tab Management

Flow Browser organizes tabs within spaces for better context management:

Tab Operations

  • Create New Tab: Click the + button in the tab bar or press Cmd/Ctrl + T
  • Close Tab: Click the X on a tab or press Cmd/Ctrl + W
  • Switch Tabs: Click on a tab or use Cmd/Ctrl + Tab
  • Reorder Tabs: Drag and drop tabs to rearrange them

Tab States

Flow Browser supports advanced tab lifecycle management:
Tabs that are currently in use and fully loaded in memory.
Inactive tabs that have been unloaded from memory to improve performance. Sleeping tabs retain their state and reload when you switch back to them.Configure sleep behavior in Settings > General > Performance Settings.
Tabs that haven’t been accessed for a specified duration are automatically archived to keep your workspace clean.Configure archiving in Settings > General > Performance Settings.

Spaces Navigation

What Are Spaces?

Spaces are isolated browsing contexts that help you organize tabs by project, context, or purpose. Each space has:
  • Its own set of tabs
  • Custom theme colors
  • Unique icon
  • Independent browsing session

Switching Spaces

Open Space Switcher

Click on the current space indicator in the sidebar to open the space switcher.

Select a Space

Choose from your available spaces. Each space displays:
  • Space name
  • Custom icon
  • Color theme
  • Preview of open tabs (if available)

Switch Instantly

Click on a space to switch to it immediately. Your tabs and browsing context change to match the selected space.

Managing Spaces

For detailed information on creating, customizing, and managing spaces, see the Customization Guide. You can configure the sidebar position based on your preference:
  1. Open Settings > General > Sidebar Settings
  2. Choose between:
    • Left (default)
    • Right (experimental)
Right sidebar positioning is experimental and may have layout issues in some scenarios.

Find in Page

Flow Browser includes a built-in find-in-page feature:
  • Press Cmd/Ctrl + F to open the find bar
  • Type your search term to highlight matches on the page
  • Use the up/down arrows to navigate between matches
  • Press Esc or click outside to close the find bar
