Get Started with Birdflop

This guide will walk you through ordering your first Minecraft server from Birdflop, setting it up, and getting it online.

Choose Your Plan

Navigate to the Birdflop homepage and scroll to the Plans section, or visit the plans page directly.

Complete Your Order

Click Order Now on your chosen plan and follow the checkout process:
  1. Select your desired RAM amount
  2. Choose your server location (US or EU)
  3. Review pricing and features
  4. Complete payment through Stripe
Make sure to select the correct region for your player base to minimize latency. US servers are best for North American players, while EU servers are optimal for European players.
After successful payment, you’ll receive:
  • An order confirmation email
  • Access credentials for the Pterodactyl Panel
  • Your server’s IP address and port

Access Your Server Panel

Log into the improved Pterodactyl Panel using the credentials provided in your welcome email.The panel gives you complete control over your server:
  • File Manager: Upload plugins, mods, and configurations
  • Console: Monitor server logs and execute commands
  • Startup Settings: Configure Java version and startup flags
  • Backups: Create and restore server backups
  • Network: Manage allocations and reverse proxies

Configure Your Server

Before starting your server for the first time, configure these essential settings:

Choose Your Server Type

From the Startup tab, select your preferred server software:
  • Paper: Recommended for most servers (best performance)
  • Purpur: Paper fork with additional features
  • Fabric: For mod support
  • Forge: For mod support (older mods)
  • Vanilla: Official Minecraft server

Install Modpacks (Optional)

Use the one-click modpack installer to instantly set up popular modpacks:
  1. Navigate to the modpack installer in your panel
  2. Search for your desired modpack (e.g., All the Mods, SkyFactory, etc.)
  3. Click install and wait for automatic setup

Optimize Startup Flags

For best performance, use the Flags Generator to generate optimal Java flags based on your server’s RAM allocation.

Start Your Server

Once configured, start your server from the panel:
  1. Click the Start button in the console
  2. Monitor the console output for any errors
  3. Wait for the “Done!” message indicating successful startup
  4. Note your server IP and port for connecting

Connect to Your Server

  1. Open Minecraft launcher and select the matching version
  2. Click MultiplayerAdd Server
  3. Enter your server IP and port (e.g., node1.us.birdflop.com:25565)
  4. Click Done and join your server
Share your server IP with friends to start building your community. Consider setting up a Discord server to coordinate with players.

Optimize Your Server

After your server is running, use Birdflop’s free optimization tools to maximize performance:

Paper Timings Analyzer

  1. Run /timings on in-game
  2. Wait 10-15 minutes for data collection
  3. Run /timings paste
  4. Paste the URL into Birdflop’s Paper Timings Analyzer
  5. Review personalized optimization suggestions

Spark Profiler

  1. Install the Spark plugin
  2. Run /spark profiler --timeout 300
  3. Paste the URL into Birdflop’s Spark Analyzer
  4. Get detailed performance insights
