Command Menu Overview

The command menu provides lightning-fast search across your entire bookmark collection. It searches through titles, URLs, and tags simultaneously, helping you find exactly what you’re looking for.
The command menu uses fuzzy search, so you don’t need to type exact matches. Partial words and fragments will return relevant results.

Opening the Command Menu

There are two ways to open the command menu:

Keyboard Shortcut

Press ⌘K (Mac) or Ctrl+K (Windows/Linux) from anywhere in the application.

The keyboard shortcuts are displayed in the footer of the command menu for quick reference.

Search Results Display

Each search result shows:
  • Favicon - The website’s icon for quick visual recognition
  • Title - The bookmark’s title
  • URL - The full web address in smaller, gray text
Results are displayed in a scrollable list, with the most relevant matches appearing first based on your search query.

Empty States

No Bookmarks

If you haven’t added any bookmarks yet, the command menu will display:
“You have no saved bookmarks.”

No Results Found

When your search doesn’t match any bookmarks, you’ll see:
  • A helpful message explaining no results were found
  • A suggestion to try a different search term or clear the search
  • A Clear search button to reset the search field
If you’re not finding what you’re looking for, try searching for just part of the URL or a single tag rather than the full title.

Additional Filtering Options

The command menu search works together with other filtering options available in the main interface.

Time Period Filters

Filter bookmarks by when they were added:
  • All time - Shows all bookmarks
  • Last month - Shows only bookmarks added in the past 30 days
  • Last week - Shows only bookmarks added in the past 7 days
To change the time period filter, click the calendar icon at the bottom of the screen and cycle through the options.
Time period filters affect both the main bookmark view and the command menu search results. Only bookmarks within the selected time period will appear in search results.

Sort Order

Control how bookmarks are sorted in your collection:
  • Newest first (descending) - Most recently added bookmarks appear at the top
  • Oldest first (ascending) - Earliest bookmarks appear at the top
Toggle between sort orders by clicking the sort icon at the bottom of the screen.
Pinned bookmarks always appear at the top of the collection, regardless of sort order.

Tag Filters

Filter your collection to show only bookmarks with specific tags. This is useful when you want to focus on a particular category or project. Learn more about tag filtering in Tags & Organization.

Combining Filters

You can combine multiple filtering methods for precise results:
  1. Set the time period filter to “Last week”
  2. Apply a tag filter for “work”
  3. Open the command menu and search for specific keywords
This will show only bookmarks that:
  • Were added in the past 7 days
  • Have the “work” tag
  • Match your search query

Search Performance

The search is designed to be fast and responsive:
  • Real-time results - Updates as you type without delay
  • Instant filtering - Works on the client side for zero latency
  • No pagination - All matching results are shown immediately
While the command menu is loading your bookmarks (indicated by “Loading…” text), search will be temporarily unavailable.

Tips for Effective Searching

Search by Domain

Since search includes URLs, you can find all bookmarks from a specific domain:
  • Type github.com to find all GitHub bookmarks
  • Type youtube to find all YouTube videos

Search by Tag

Quickly find all bookmarks with a specific tag by typing the tag name in the search field. This is faster than manually filtering by tag when you know exactly what you’re looking for.

Use Partial Matches

You don’t need to type complete words. The search will match partial strings, so:
  • doc will match “documentation”, “docs”, and “docker”
  • react will match “React Tutorial”, “reactjs.org”, and bookmarks tagged with “react”

Clear Search Often

Use the Clear search button or delete your query to see all bookmarks again. This helps when you want to browse rather than search for something specific.
