Available Filters

Release Date

Filter content by release date or air date range:
The release date filter shows the oldest and newest available titles in the database, covering decades of content.
How to use:
  1. Click the start date picker to select your minimum release date
  2. Click the end date picker to select your maximum release date
  3. Results update automatically to show only titles within your date range
Example use cases:
  • Find classic movies from the 1980s
  • Discover what’s coming out next month
  • Browse shows that aired in a specific year

Streaming Providers

Find content available on your streaming services:
The streaming filter automatically detects your location and shows providers available in your region.
Supported operators:
  • AND: Shows content available on ALL selected platforms
  • OR: Shows content available on ANY of the selected platforms

Genre

Browse by genre with flexible combinations:

Available genres include Action, Adventure, Animation, Comedy, Crime, Documentary, Drama, Family, Fantasy, Horror, Mystery, Romance, Sci-Fi, Thriller, and more.

Filter TV shows by the network or channel that aired them:

Cast & Crew (Movies Only)

Find movies featuring specific actors or directors:

Actor Filter

  1. Click in the Actor field
  2. Start typing an actor’s name
  3. Select from the autocomplete suggestions
  4. Add multiple actors using AND/OR operators
Examples:
  • AND: Movies featuring Leonardo DiCaprio AND Tom Hanks together
  • OR: Movies with Leonardo DiCaprio OR Tom Hanks

Crew Filter

Similar to the actor filter but for directors, writers, and other crew:
  1. Click in the Crew field
  2. Type a director or crew member’s name
  3. Select from suggestions
  4. Use AND/OR for multiple selections
The search uses intelligent autocomplete that queries TMDB’s person database as you type.

Production Company

Filter by the studio or production company:
  1. Start typing a company name (e.g., “Warner Bros”, “Marvel Studios”)
  2. Select from autocomplete suggestions
  3. Use AND/OR operators for multiple companies
Use cases:
  • Find all Marvel Cinematic Universe films
  • Browse Pixar’s complete catalog
  • Discover A24’s indie releases

Language

Filter content by original language:
  • English
  • Spanish
  • French
  • Japanese
  • Korean
  • German
  • Italian
  • And many more languages
The language filter refers to the original language of the content, not dubbed or subtitle options.

Keywords

Search by keywords and themes:
  1. Type a keyword (e.g., “based on novel”, “superhero”, “time travel”)
  2. Select from autocomplete suggestions
  3. Combine multiple keywords with AND/OR operators

Filter by movie or episode length (in minutes):

Common ranges:
  • Short films: 0-60 minutes
  • Standard movies: 90-120 minutes
  • Long films: 150+ minutes

Rating

Filter by average user rating (0-10 scale):
  • Use the dual slider to set minimum and maximum ratings
  • Based on TMDB community ratings
  • Step increment: 0.1
Examples:
  • 8.0-10.0: Highly acclaimed films
  • 7.0-8.0: Well-received content
  • 5.0-7.0: Mixed reviews
Ratings are based on TMDB’s community voting system and are updated regularly.

Rating Count

Filter by the number of ratings received:
  • Useful for finding popular content vs. hidden gems
  • Higher vote counts generally indicate more mainstream content
  • Lower counts may reveal underrated or niche titles

TV Series Status (TV Shows Only)

Filter shows by production status:
  • Returning Series: Currently airing with more seasons planned
  • Ended: Series has concluded
  • Canceled: Series was canceled before planned completion
  • In Production: Currently filming new episodes
  • Planned: Announced but not yet in production

TV Series Type (TV Shows Only)

Filter by the type of TV series:
  • Scripted: Traditional scripted series
  • Reality: Reality TV shows
  • Documentary: Documentary series
  • News: News programs
  • Talk Show: Talk shows and interviews
  • Miniseries: Limited series with predetermined episode count

Sorting Results

Sort your filtered results by:
Shows most popular content first (default)
Sort order:
  • Descending: Highest to lowest (default)
  • Ascending: Lowest to highest

Combining Multiple Filters

Filters work together to narrow your results. The more filters you apply, the more specific your results become.

  5. Sort by Rating to see the best first

Filter Sidebar

On desktop, the filter sidebar appears on the left side of the search page:
  • Toggle visibility: Click the filter icon to show/hide
  • Sticky positioning: Sidebar scrolls with you for easy access
  • Mobile view: Full-screen overlay with close button
Applied filters appear as chips in the search results area. Click any chip to quickly remove that filter.

Tips for Better Searching

  1. Start broad, then narrow: Begin with one or two filters and add more to refine
  2. Use OR operators: Great for exploring multiple options at once
  3. Adjust date ranges: Release date is powerful for finding new or classic content
  4. Check streaming availability: Set your location for accurate provider information
  5. Combine keywords: Keywords + genre can find very specific content themes
