You can install addons in two ways: by pasting a direct addon URL, or by browsing the built-in community catalog and installing from there.

Install by URL

If you already have an addon’s manifest URL, you can install it directly.

Open the Addons page

Select Addons from the sidebar navigation. The page opens showing your currently installed addons.

Open the Add Addon dialog

Click the + Add addon button in the top toolbar. A dialog appears with a URL input field.

Paste the addon URL

Paste the addon’s transport URL (ending in manifest.json) into the input field and press Enter or click Add.

Review the addon details

Stremio fetches the manifest from the URL and opens the Addon Details modal. You can review the addon’s name, description, version, supported content types, and transport URL before committing.

Install the addon

Click Install in the modal. If the addon requires configuration first, you will see a Configure button instead — click it to complete setup on the addon’s configuration page before installing.
If Stremio cannot reach the manifest URL, the details modal shows a loading error. Check that the URL is correct and the addon server is reachable.

Browse the community catalog

Stremio includes a built-in community addon catalog that lists publicly available addons.

Open the Addons page

Select Addons from the sidebar navigation.

Select a remote catalog

Use the Catalog dropdown to switch from your installed addons to a remote catalog. The community catalog entries appear alongside your installed addons list.

Filter by type

Use the Type dropdown to narrow the list to a specific content type such as movies, series, or channels.

Search for an addon

Type in the search bar to filter addons by name or description.

Install from the catalog

Click Install on any addon card, or click the card itself to open the details modal first. Confirm the installation in the modal.

What happens after installation

Once an addon is installed:
  • Catalogs it provides appear in the Discover page’s catalog dropdown and in the Board content rows.
  • Streams it resolves appear automatically on any metadata page for a matching title.
  • Subtitles it provides become available in the player’s subtitle selector during playback.
After installing a new catalog addon, navigate to Discover and select the addon’s catalog from the dropdown to start browsing its content.

Configurable addons

Some addons require configuration before they work. These addons are marked with Configure instead of Install.

Click Configure

Click the Configure button on the addon card or in the details modal. Stremio opens the addon’s configuration page in your browser.

Complete setup

Follow the addon’s instructions — this typically involves entering an API key, selecting a server, or logging in to a third-party service.

Install the configured addon

The addon’s configuration page usually provides a direct install link or button. Click it to complete installation.
Addons that are already installed but support optional configuration show both a Configure button and an Uninstall button.

Sharing an addon

Every installed addon has a Share button. Clicking it opens a dialog with the addon’s transport URL that you can copy and send to others. The recipient can paste it into the Add Addon dialog to install the same addon.
