Connecting Accounts
Automatic Sync
Connect your accounts to automatically import balances, transactions, and holdings:- Navigate to Accounts in the main menu
- Click Connect Account
- Choose your financial institution from supported providers:
- Plaid - US & Canadian banks and brokerages
- SimpleFIN - Open banking protocol
- Enable Banking - European banks
- Coinbase - Cryptocurrency exchange
- Mercury - Business banking
- And more providers
- Follow the authentication flow to securely link your account
- Select which accounts to sync
Sure never stores your banking credentials. All connections use secure OAuth tokens or API keys that can be revoked at any time.
Manual Accounts
For accounts that can’t be connected automatically, create manual accounts:- Click Add Manual Account
- Select the account type (checking, investment, property, etc.)
- Enter account details:
- Account name
- Current balance
- Currency
- Institution (optional)
- Set initial balance date
- Save to start tracking
- Cash holdings
- Foreign banks not supported by providers
- Property and vehicle valuations
- Cryptocurrency in cold storage

- Recent activity - transactions, trades, and valuations
- Account information - institution, account number, type
- Connection status - last sync time and any sync errors

Sync Account
Manually trigger a sync to fetch the latest data from your institution. Syncs happen automatically in the background, but you can force a refresh anytime.
Edit Account
Edit Account
Update account details like name, institution, or account type. For manual accounts, you can also adjust the current balance.
Link to Provider
Link to Provider
Connect a manual account to an automatic provider to start syncing data. Sure will match it with the correct account from your institution.
Unlink Account
Unlink Account
Remove the connection to a provider while keeping all historical data. The account becomes manual and you can update transactions yourself.
Enable/Disable Account
Enable/Disable Account
Disable accounts you no longer use to hide them from your dashboard while preserving historical data. Re-enable anytime to include them in reports again.
Delete Account
Delete Account
Permanently remove an account and all associated transactions. This action cannot be undone. You can only delete manual accounts - linked accounts must be unlinked first.
Account Status
Accounts can be in different states:- Active - Normal state, included in all calculations and reports
- Draft - New account being set up, not yet fully configured
- Disabled - Hidden from dashboard but data preserved
- Syncing - Currently fetching data from provider
- Pending Deletion - Scheduled for removal

Sure tracks daily account balances automatically:- Linked accounts - Balances sync from your institution
- Manual accounts - Balances calculated from transactions and manual updates
- Investment accounts - Total value includes cash + market value of holdings
Multi-Currency Support
Each account has a native currency (USD, EUR, GBP, etc.). Sure automatically:- Converts balances to your family’s base currency for reporting
- Uses daily exchange rates for accurate conversions
- Shows original currency amounts on individual transactions
- Tracks foreign exchange transactions with metadata

- Failed syncs retry with exponential backoff

Manual Sync
Trigger a sync manually:- Click the sync icon on an account card, or
- Open the account and click Sync Now, or
- Use Sync All Accounts to refresh everything at once
Account Organization
On the Accounts page, accounts are organized by:- Manual accounts - Listed alphabetically at the top
- Connected accounts - Grouped by provider/institution
- Account type badges - Visual indicators for checking, investment, credit card, etc.

Accounts from the same institution are grouped together, showing:- Institution name and logo
- Last sync time
- Total number of accounts
- Sync status and any errors
