Papillon is available as a native mobile application for iOS and Android devices. This guide covers the installation process for both platforms.

System Requirements

Before installing Papillon, ensure your device meets the minimum requirements:

iOS Requirements

  • iOS 17.6 or later
  • Compatible with iPhone and iPad
  • ~50 MB of available storage
  • Internet connection for setup

Android Requirements

  • Android OS (modern versions)
  • ~50 MB of available storage
  • Internet connection for setup
Papillon uses modern native architecture including React Native 0.81.5 with the new architecture enabled for optimal performance and smooth animations.

iOS Installation

Download from App Store

Open the App Store

Launch the App Store app on your iOS device.

Search for Papillon

You can either:Look for the app with the bundle identifier xyz.getpapillon.ios

Install the app

Tap the “Get” button, then authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your Apple ID password.The app will begin downloading. Installation typically takes less than a minute depending on your connection speed.

Launch Papillon

Once installed, tap “Open” from the App Store, or find the Papillon icon on your home screen.
iPad Support: Papillon is fully optimized for iPad with tablet-friendly layouts and multitasking support.

iOS Permissions

When you first launch Papillon on iOS, you may be prompted to grant certain permissions:
Papillon uses your location to find schools near you during setup.

Prompt: "Papillon utilise ton emplacement pour trouver les établissements autour de toi."
All permissions are optional. You can deny them initially and grant them later when needed through iOS Settings → Papillon.

Android Installation

Download from Google Play Store

Open Google Play Store

Launch the Google Play Store app on your Android device.

Search for Papillon

You can either:
  • Search for “Papillon” in the Play Store
  • Look for the package name: xyz.getpapillon.app
Make sure you’re downloading the official Papillon app to ensure security and authenticity.

Install the app

Tap the “Install” button. The app will download and install automatically.Android will request permission to install the app if this is your first time installing from Play Store.

Open Papillon

Tap “Open” from the Play Store, or find the Papillon icon in your app drawer.

Android Permissions

Papillon requests the following permissions on Android:
Used to find nearby schools during the onboarding process.
Can be denied if you prefer to search manually.
Android 12+ users: Papillon is optimized for 16KB page sizes for better compatibility with newer devices.

Post-Installation Setup

After installing Papillon, you’ll need to complete the initial setup:

Papillon supports 35+ languages including:

The app will auto-detect your system language, but you can change it anytime in settings.

Troubleshooting

Installation Issues

Can’t download from App Store/Play Store?
  • Ensure you have a stable internet connection
  • Check that you have enough storage space (~50 MB required)
  • Verify your iOS version is 17.6 or later for iOS devices
  • Try restarting your device and attempting the download again
  • Make sure your Apple ID / Google account is signed in

App Won’t Open

If Papillon crashes or won’t open after installation:

Force close and reopen

  • iOS: Swipe up from the bottom (or double-click Home button), swipe Papillon away, then reopen
  • Android: Open Recent Apps, swipe Papillon away, then reopen

Check for updates

Make sure you have the latest version of Papillon installed from the App Store or Play Store.

Reinstall the app

If issues persist, uninstall Papillon and reinstall from the store.
Uninstalling will remove your locally stored data. Your account information will need to be re-entered.

Permission Issues

If certain features don’t work:
1. Go to Settings → Papillon
2. Review and enable required permissions
3. Restart the app

Updates & Maintenance

Papillon is actively maintained with regular updates:
Auto-Updates: Enable automatic updates in your App Store or Play Store settings to always have the latest features and security improvements.

Update Process

  • iOS: Updates are distributed through the App Store. You’ll receive a notification when an update is available.
  • Android: Updates are pushed through Google Play Store with automatic installation if enabled.
Papillon follows a regular release cycle with:
  • Feature updates every few weeks
  • Bug fixes and security patches as needed
  • Major version updates announced in the app and on social media

Privacy & Security

Your data security is a priority:

Local Storage

Credentials are stored locally using encrypted secure storage (Expo Secure Store).

No Data Collection

Papillon doesn’t sell or share your personal information with third parties.

Open Source

The app is open source - you can review the code on GitHub for transparency.

Direct Connection

Data is fetched directly from your school’s servers. Papillon acts as a secure client.
