The syllabus tracker provides a structured view of the complete JEE or NEET syllabus organized by subjects, units, and chapters. Track your progress through each chapter with status updates, revision counts, and PYQ completion.

JEE/NEET syllabus structure

ChaosPrep includes the official syllabus for both exams:

JEE (Main/Advanced)

  • Physics: 28 chapters across 6 units (Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Electromagnetism, Optics & Modern, Experimental)
  • Chemistry: 23 chapters across 3 units (Physical, Inorganic, Organic)
  • Mathematics: 27 chapters across 4 units (Algebra, Calculus, Coordinate & Vectors, Trigonometry & Stats)

NEET

  • Physics: 28 chapters across 6 units (same as JEE)
  • Chemistry: 23 chapters across 3 units (same as JEE)
  • Biology: 32 chapters across 7 units (Diversity, Cell Structure, Plant Physiology, Human Physiology, Reproduction & Genetics, Human Welfare, Biotech & Ecology)
The tracker automatically shows only the relevant subjects based on your exam type (set in Settings).

Chapter priority system

Each chapter has a priority level based on historical exam weightage:
  • A Priority: Highest weightage topics (e.g., Current Electricity, GOC, 3D Geometry)
  • B Priority: Important topics with moderate weightage
  • C Priority: Lower weightage but still appear regularly
  • D Priority: Least frequent topics in exams
Priority-based study strategy: If you’re short on time, focus on completing all A and B priority chapters first. This covers 70-80% of typical exam questions. Use C and D priority chapters to maximize your score after mastering the high-priority topics.

Chapter status tracking

Every chapter can be assigned one of four status states:

Not Started (gray dot)

Default state for new chapters. The chapter hasn’t been touched yet.

In Progress (yellow dot)

You’ve started studying this chapter but haven’t completed it. Use this for chapters you’re currently working through.

Completed (green dot)

You’ve finished studying all concepts and solved basic problems from this chapter. First-time completion.

Revised (purple dot)

You’ve completed the chapter AND revised it at least once. This is your target state for exam readiness.

Updating chapter status

1

Navigate to Syllabus

Click Syllabus in the navigation bar to open the tracker.
2

Find your chapter

Browse by subject and unit, or use the search bar to find a specific chapter by name.
3

Open the chapter panel

Click on any chapter row to expand the action panel below it. An animated dropdown appears.
4

Select status

Click one of the four status buttons: To Do, Doing, Done, or Mastered. The status updates instantly.
5

Track revisions and PYQs

  • Use the +/- buttons to increment revision count
  • Toggle PYQs button to mark when you’ve solved previous year questions

Progress tracking

At the top of the syllabus view, you’ll see overall progress statistics:
  • Completion percentage: Large number showing overall syllabus coverage
  • Progress bar: Color-coded bar showing proportion of chapters in each status
    • Purple segment: Mastered chapters
    • Green segment: Completed chapters
    • Yellow segment: In Progress chapters
    • Gray segment: Not Started chapters

Subject-wise progress

Below the overall progress, individual subject cards display:
  • Subject name and total chapters
  • Completion percentage for that subject
  • Progress bar (same color-coding as overall)
This helps you identify which subjects need more attention.

Revision counter

Each chapter has a revision counter that tracks how many times you’ve revised it.
  • Click + to increment after each revision
  • Click - to decrement if logged by mistake
  • The count displays in the chapter badges
Example badge: R2 means revised 2 times.

PYQ completion tracking

The PYQs toggle marks whether you’ve solved previous year questions for this chapter.
  • Click to toggle ON (green with checkmark)
  • Click again to toggle OFF
PYQ completion is displayed as a badge on the chapter card.

Custom chapters

If you’re studying topics outside the standard syllabus, you can add custom chapters:
  1. Click + Add Custom Chapter at the bottom of any unit
  2. Enter the chapter name
  3. Track it with the same status, revision, and PYQ system
Custom chapters appear alongside standard syllabus chapters and contribute to progress calculations. Use the search bar at the top of the tracker to filter chapters by name. The search is instant and case-insensitive. Example searches:
  • “electro” → shows Electrostatics, Electrochemistry, EM Waves
  • “motion” → shows Motion In One Dimension, Motion In Two Dimensions, Rotational Motion

Progress calculation logic

The completion percentage uses weighted scoring:
  • Not Started: 0% contribution
  • In Progress: 50% contribution
  • Completed: 100% contribution
  • Revised: 100% contribution
Example: If you have 10 chapters with 5 Completed, 3 In Progress, and 2 Not Started:
(5 × 1.0 + 3 × 0.5 + 2 × 0) / 10 = 65% completion
Data privacy: Your syllabus progress is private and not shared with your Accountability Squad. Only your daily tasks and streaks are visible to friends.

Collapsible units

Each unit (e.g., “Mechanics I”, “Physical Chem”) can be collapsed or expanded:
  • Click the unit header to toggle collapse/expand
  • This keeps the interface clean when reviewing specific sections
  • Your collapse states are saved per session
