What is Conversation Sharing?

Create a public, read-only snapshot of any chat conversation:

Snapshot in Time

Shared link shows conversation exactly as it was when shared

View-Only

Others can read but not modify or continue the conversation

Public Link

Anyone with the link can access - no Khoj account required

Static Content

Future messages you send won’t appear in the shared version

How to Share a Conversation

1

Open Conversation Menu

In the chat interface, click the three-dot menu (⋯) in the conversation header or sidebar
2

Select 'Share'

Click the “Share” option from the menu
3

A shareable URL is generated instantly. Click to copy:
https://app.khoj.dev/share/chat/[unique-id]
4

Share the Link

Send the URL via:
  • Email
  • Slack or other messaging apps
  • Social media
  • Documentation or blog posts
  • Anywhere you can share links!
You can share a conversation at any point - early for collaboration, or after completion to showcase results.

Use Cases

Troubleshooting with support:Instead of copying and pasting your entire conversation:
  1. Chat with Khoj about your problem
  2. Share the conversation link
  3. Support can see the full context
Example message:
Hey team, I'm having trouble with X. Here's my conversation
with Khoj where I explored the issue: [share link]

What Gets Shared

  • All messages in the conversation up to the sharing moment
  • Your questions and Khoj’s responses
  • Images generated during the chat
  • Code blocks and output
  • Citations and source references
  • Timestamps
  • Your personal documents or knowledge base content
  • Messages sent after sharing
  • Your account information
  • Other conversations
  • Ability to continue the conversation
Before sharing, review the conversation to ensure it doesn’t contain:
  • Sensitive personal information
  • Passwords or API keys
  • Private business data
  • Confidential information

Managing Shared Conversations

Currently, shared conversations are managed through:
  1. Bookmark the share link yourself
  2. Keep track of shared URLs
  3. Access through browser history
A dedicated “My Shares” dashboard is planned for future releases

Privacy & Security

Important privacy considerations:
Anyone with the link can view the conversation - no authentication required. This means:
  • Can be shared widely
  • May be indexed by search engines
  • Could be accessed by unintended viewers
  • Treat as public information
Your documents are NOT shared:
  • Only the conversation content is visible
  • Source documents remain private
  • Personal knowledge base not accessible
  • Citations show references but not full content

Best Practices

Review Before Sharing

Read through the entire conversation to verify content is appropriate

Clean Up First

Start a new conversation if current one has sensitive info mixed in

Add Context

When sharing, include a message explaining what the link shows

Know Your Audience

Consider who might see the link (public vs small team)

Viewing Shared Conversations

When someone shares a link with you:
1

Click the Link

Open the shared URL in your browser
2

View Conversation

Read through the chat history:
  • Scroll to see all messages
  • Click citations to see sources
  • View embedded images or charts
3

Try it Yourself (Optional)

At the bottom, you can click “Try this in Khoj” to:
  • Start your own conversation
  • Ask follow-up questions
  • Explore related topics
This creates a NEW conversation in your account, not a continuation of the shared one
Example shared conversation: Check out this sample to see how shared conversations look.
