Calendar Views

Day View

See your schedule hour-by-hour with:
  • Time slots from 6am to midnight
  • Color-coded event blocks
  • Event duration visualization
  • Quick event details on tap

Week View

Overview of your week ahead:
  • 7-day horizontal scroll
  • Events displayed in daily columns

Switch views by tapping the view selector at the top of the calendar.

User Created Events

Custom events you create for anything:

Academic timetable events:
  • Automatically imported from university systems

  • Created by society committees

Creating Events

Tap the ”+” button or long-press a date to create an event.

Event Creation Flow

1. Choose Poster Select who’s posting the event:
  • Your personal account
  • Any group where you’re an admin
  • Society accounts (if committee member)
Tap your profile picture in the header to change. 2. Add Cover Image (Optional) Make your event stand out:
  • Choose from Templates: Pre-designed covers for different event types
  • Upload Photo: Use your camera roll
  • Edit Image: Crop and adjust
Events with cover images get 4x more RSVPs than those without.
3. Event Details Name (Required) Clear, descriptive title:
  • “Computer Science Society Pub Quiz”
  • “Football Training Session”
  • “Year 2 Study Group - Library”
Date & Time (Required)
  • Start date and time
  • End date and time (defaults to 1 hour after start)
  • All-day toggle for deadlines/multi-day events
Location (Optional) Choose from:
  • University buildings: Auto-complete with room numbers
  • Popular venues: Local bars, clubs, restaurants
  • Custom location: Any address
  • Online: Virtual event with meeting link
Further Location Instructions:
  • “Meet outside main entrance”
  • “Room 3.14 in Portland Building”
  • “Ask for the Chapter group at the bar”
Description (Optional) Provide event details:
  • What to expect
  • What to bring
  • Dress code
  • Parking information
  • Contact details
4. Recurring Events Create events that repeat: Frequencies:
  • Daily
  • Weekly (same day each week)
  • Custom Weekly (select multiple days)
  • Bi-weekly
  • Monthly
End Options:
  • Never (continues indefinitely)
  • After X occurrences
  • On specific date
Custom Weekly Example: Football training every Tuesday and Thursday:
  • Select Tuesday and Thursday
  • Set different times for each day
  • Set end date (e.g., end of term)
Recurring events create separate calendar entries for each occurrence. Editing one doesn’t affect others.
5. Visibility & Capacity Visibility:
  • Public: Anyone at your university can see and RSVP
  • Group Only: Only visible to members of the posting group
  • Invite Only: Only invited users can see the event
Capacity (Optional): Set maximum attendees:
  • Shows “X/Y attending”
  • RSVP closes when full
  • Waitlist option
6. Review & Create Review all details and tap “Create Event”. The event is:
  • Added to your calendar
  • Posted to the group (if group event)
  • Shared with invited users
  • Discoverable in event search (if public)

Event Details View

Tap any event to see full details:

Header Section

  • Large cover image
  • Event name and type badge
  • Quick actions (share, save, report)

Info Cards

Date & Time
  • Full date and time range
  • “Add to Calendar” button (exports to device calendar)
  • Time until event (“in 3 days”)
Location
  • Venue name and address
  • Map preview
  • “Get Directions” button (opens Maps)
  • Further instructions (if provided)
Organizer
  • Organizer name and profile picture
  • Contact information
  • “View Group” button (if group event)
  • “Message Organizer” button

Attendees Section

See who’s going:
  • Attendee count: “42 attending”
  • Avatar stack of first 5 attendees
  • “See All Attendees” to view full list
  • Mutual friends highlighted
  • RSVP status indicator
RSVP Options:
  • Going
  • Maybe
  • Can’t Go
Invite friends directly from the event page to boost attendance.

Description

Full event description with formatting:
  • Line breaks preserved
  • Links tapped to open
  • “Read More” expansion for long descriptions

Tickets (If Applicable)

Multiple ticket tiers supported: Ticket Information:
  • Tier name (“Members”, “Non-Members”, “Early Bird”)
  • Price
  • Availability (“12 of 50 remaining”)
  • Sale period
  • Sold out indicator
Actions:
  • “Buy Tickets” (opens external provider)
  • “View on Fatsoma/Eventbrite”

Weather Forecast

For outdoor events happening within 7 days:
  • Temperature
  • Conditions (sunny, rainy, etc.)
  • Weather icon

Required Items

Organizers can list what to bring:
  • “Student ID for entry”
  • “Sports kit and trainers”
  • “Laptop for workshop”
If event has a linked group chat:
  • “Join Event Chat” button
  • Unread message count
  • Quick preview of latest message

Share Event

Share to:
  • Group chats
  • Private messages
  • External (creates shareable link)
  • Device share sheet (WhatsApp, Instagram, etc.)

Managing Your Events

As Event Creator

Edit Event: Change any event details:
  • Update time or location
  • Modify description
  • Change cover image
  • Adjust capacity
Cancel Event:
  • Mark event as cancelled
  • Notifies all attendees
  • Event remains in calendar (marked cancelled)
View Analytics:
  • Total RSVPs
  • RSVP breakdown (Going/Maybe/Not Going)
  • Attendee list with contact info

As Attendee

Change RSVP: Update your attendance status anytime. Add to Calendar: Export to device calendar for reminders. Set Reminder: Get push notification before event:
  • 1 hour before
  • 1 day before
  • 1 week before
  • Custom time
Remove from Calendar: Hide event without leaving RSVP (for imported events).

Group Events

Events created by groups appear:
  • In the group chat (as message type event)
  • On all group members’ calendars (if they choose to import)
  • In the group preview’s events section
Group Event Features:

  • Member-only visibility option

Smart Features

Auto-Import

Chapter automatically imports:
  • Timetabled lectures: From university systems
  • Group events: From groups you’ve joined
  • Society events: From societies you follow
  • Sports fixtures: For teams you’re in
Control Imports: Manage what auto-imports in Settings > Calendar:
  • Toggle by source type
  • Disable specific groups
  • Remove past events

Conflict Detection

When creating or RSVPing to events:
  • Warning if overlaps with existing events
  • “You have another event at this time”
  • Option to proceed anyway

Based on your profile and activity:

Shared Calendar View

Manage notification preferences in Settings > Notifications > Events.

Best Practices

Create events as soon as dates are confirmed so attendees can plan ahead.
Events with images get significantly more engagement. Use templates for quick, professional designs.
Include building names, room numbers, and meeting points. Use “Further Instructions” for clarity.
Better to have a waitlist than turn people away at the door.
If details change, update the event immediately. All attendees will be notified.
Perfect for regular training, weekly meetings, or lecture series.
