The AWS Certified App offers two types of tests to help you prepare for the AWS Cloud Practitioner certification exam.

Test Types

Domain Mastery Tests

Domain tests focus on specific exam topics with 30 targeted questions. These tests are ideal for:
  • Strengthening knowledge in specific areas
  • Identifying weak points in your understanding
  • Building confidence before taking the full exam
Available domains:
  • Domain 1: Cloud Concepts (24% of exam)
  • Domain 2: Security and Compliance (30% of exam)
  • Domain 3: Cloud Technology and Services (34% of exam)
  • Domain 4: Billing, Pricing, and Support (12% of exam)

Full Exam Simulation

The full exam simulation replicates the real AWS certification exam experience:
  • 65 randomized questions from all domains
  • 90-minute time limit (realistic exam conditions)
  • Official domain distribution: 16, 20, 21, and 8 questions respectively
  • 15 unscored questions included (just like the real exam)
In the real AWS exam, 15 of the 65 questions are unscored experimental questions. The app simulates this by randomly selecting which questions count toward your final score.

Starting a Test

1

Select your test type

From the main menu under the Practice Tests tab, choose either a domain test or the full exam simulation.
2

Begin immediately

Click the test button to start. The timer begins immediately, so make sure you’re ready before clicking.
3

Read each question carefully

Questions appear one at a time. Take your time to understand what’s being asked before selecting your answer.

During the Test

Answering Questions

Each question displays:
  • The question number and total count (e.g., “Question 5 of 30”)
  • The question text
  • Multiple choice options (labeled A, B, C, D)
Pay attention to whether a question asks for a single answer or multiple answers. Multi-answer questions allow up to 2 selections.

Question Types

Single-choice questions: Select one option by clicking on it. The option will highlight in orange. Multiple-choice questions: Select up to 2 options. If you try to select more than 2, you’ll see a warning message.

Eliminating Wrong Answers

To help narrow down your choices:
  1. Click the ”×” button next to any answer option
  2. The option will be crossed out and grayed out
  3. Click the ”×” again to reactivate the option
Elimination is a powerful test-taking strategy. If you can rule out 2 wrong answers, you’ve increased your odds of selecting the correct one.

Test Modes: Study vs. Exam

The app behaves differently depending on which test type you’re taking:

Study Mode (Domain Tests)

  • Immediate feedback: After submitting each answer, you’ll see whether you were correct or incorrect
  • Detailed explanations: Learn why the correct answer is right
  • Sequential navigation: Move through unanswered questions in order
  • Cannot revisit: Once you answer a question, you cannot go back to it
Study mode is designed for learning. Use it to understand concepts deeply rather than just memorizing answers.

Exam Mode (Full Simulation)

  • No immediate feedback: Answers are not revealed until you finish
  • Full navigation: Jump to any question at any time
  • Review before submitting: Check all your answers before finalizing
  • Realistic conditions: Mimics the actual AWS certification exam
In exam mode, you won’t know if your answers are correct until you finish. This mirrors the real exam experience.

Finishing Your Test

Domain Tests

Simply work through all 30 questions. After answering the last question, you’ll see your results automatically.

Full Exam Simulation

1

Click the Finish button

When ready to complete the exam, click the green Finish button in the top-right corner.
2

Review your answers

A review screen appears showing all questions:
  • Green border = answered
  • Red border = not answered
Click any question to jump to it and add or change your answer.
3

Confirm submission

Check the “I have reviewed all answers” checkbox, then click Confirm Finish.
Once you confirm, you cannot change your answers. Make sure you’ve answered all questions before confirming.

Viewing Results

After completing a test, you’ll see: Your score: Displayed on the AWS scale (100-1000)
  • Passing score: 700 or higher
  • Your score compared to the minimum
Domain breakdown: Performance percentage for each of the four domains
  • Green bar = 70% or higher (good)
  • Red bar = below 70% (needs improvement)
Action buttons:
  • Back to Home: Return to the main menu
  • Retry Test: Take the same test type again with new questions
AWS recommends consistently scoring 80% or higher on practice exams before attempting the real certification exam.

Time Management

Domain Tests (30 questions)

While domain tests have a 90-minute timer, you should aim to complete them much faster:
  • Target: 1-2 minutes per question
  • Total time: 30-60 minutes
  • Use remaining time to review flagged questions

Full Exam (65 questions)

90 minutes total = strict time limit Recommended pace:
  • 1.38 minutes per question on average
  • First pass: 60 minutes (answer all questions quickly)
  • Second pass: 20 minutes (review flagged questions)
  • Final review: 10 minutes (check unanswered questions)
If time runs out before you finish, the exam auto-submits with whatever answers you’ve provided. Unanswered questions are marked incorrect.

Best Practices

Start with domain tests to identify your weak areas, then focus your study efforts before attempting the full exam simulation.
Take multiple full exams until you consistently score 700+ (preferably 800+) before scheduling your real AWS certification exam.
Track your progress by reviewing the performance indicators on each domain test button on the main menu.
