Creating and Editing Notes

1

Click the new note button to create a blank note. You’ll be prompted to add a title.
2

Add a Title

Give your note a descriptive title to help you find it later.
3

Write Your Content

Add detailed content to your note. Notes support plain text with a maximum of 10,000 characters.
4

Organize with Categories

Optionally assign your note to a category for better organization.

Note Properties

Each note includes:
  • Title: A brief, descriptive name for the note (required)
  • Content: The main body text, up to 10,000 characters (optional)
  • Category: Optional category assignment for organization
  • Pinned Status: Pin one note at a time for quick access
  • Timestamps: Automatic tracking of creation and last update times
Notes have a maximum content length of 10,000 characters. If you paste content longer than this, it will be automatically truncated to fit.

Managing Notes

Pinning Notes

Pin a single note to keep it easily accessible:
  • Only one note can be pinned at a time
  • Pinning a new note automatically unpins the previous one
  • Pinned notes appear at the top of your notes list
  • Great for frequently referenced information or active projects

Updating Notes

Notes can be edited at any time:
  • Update the title to better reflect the content
  • Edit or expand the content as needed
  • Change the category assignment
  • Toggle the pinned status
All changes are automatically saved with an updated timestamp.
Every update to a note automatically updates the updatedAt timestamp, helping you track recent activity.

Deleting Notes

Delete notes you no longer need. Notes are soft-deleted (marked with a deletedAt timestamp) and removed from all views while being preserved in the database.

Typing Sound Effects

Meelio includes optional typing sound effects to enhance your note-taking experience:
  • Toggle on/off: Enable or disable typing sounds in your preferences
  • Tactile feedback: Sounds provide satisfying audio feedback as you type
  • Non-intrusive: Subtle sounds that enhance rather than distract
Many users find that typing sound effects:
  • Provide satisfying tactile feedback
  • Help maintain writing flow and rhythm
  • Create a more engaging writing experience
  • Signal to your brain that you’re in “writing mode”
If you prefer silent note-taking, simply disable the feature in settings.

Note Organization

Category Integration

Notes use the same category system as tasks:
  • Create categories that work for both notes and tasks
  • Filter notes by category
  • Shared category icons provide visual consistency
  • Categories help you group related information

Search and Filter

While notes don’t have a built-in search UI in the store, you can:
  • Filter by category to narrow down notes
  • Sort by creation or update time
  • Use pinning to keep important notes accessible

Storage and Limits

  • Maximum notes per user: 500 notes
  • Maximum content length: 10,000 characters per note
  • Titles: No strict limit, but keep them concise for better organization
These limits ensure optimal performance while providing ample space for most use cases.
Notes are stored locally using IndexedDB:
  • Fast access without network requests
  • Offline-first architecture
  • Automatic sync to your account when online
  • Persistent across browser sessions
If content exceeds 10,000 characters:
  • Automatically truncated when saved
  • Happens silently to prevent data loss
  • Only affects new content additions or edits
For longer content, consider breaking it into multiple notes by topic.

Tips and Best Practices

Use Descriptive Titles

Write clear, descriptive titles that help you quickly identify notes. Good titles make finding information faster and easier.

Pin Active Notes

Pin the note you’re actively working on or frequently referencing. This keeps important information one click away.

Leverage Categories

Use categories to create a personal knowledge management system. Examples: “Meeting Notes”, “Ideas”, “Reference”, “Code Snippets”.

Regular Cleanup

Periodically review and delete outdated notes. This keeps your notes list manageable and relevant.

Keep It Focused

Each note should cover one topic or idea. Multiple focused notes are easier to find and manage than one long note covering many topics.

Use Cases

Quick Capture

Use notes to quickly capture fleeting ideas before they disappear. The fast interface means you can jot down thoughts without interrupting your flow.

Meeting Notes

Take notes during meetings or calls. Pin the current meeting note for easy access during the conversation.

Reference Information

Store frequently needed information like:
  • Code snippets
  • Keyboard shortcuts
  • Contact information
  • Project details
  • Documentation links

Brainstorming

Use notes as a brainstorming canvas. Create a note, enable typing sounds, and let ideas flow.

Daily Journal

Create a daily note to track thoughts, accomplishments, or learnings throughout the day.

Integration with Tasks

Notes and tasks work together seamlessly:
  • Use the same categories for both
  • Convert note ideas into actionable tasks
  • Reference notes while working on related tasks
  • Keep project notes alongside project tasks
The notes feature shares the category system with tasks, making it easy to keep related information together across different content types.

Future Enhancements

While notes are powerful in their current form, potential future features could include:
  • Rich text formatting
  • Note linking and backlinks
  • Full-text search
  • Note templates
  • Export capabilities
The current plain-text approach keeps notes fast, simple, and distraction-free—perfect for quick capture and reference.
