Study plans are the foundation of your learning journey on Study Sync. This guide walks you through creating a comprehensive study plan from scratch.

What is a Study Plan?

A study plan is a curated collection of learning resources (YouTube videos, PDFs, articles, and more) organized for a specific course or topic. Once created, you can start an instance to track your progress through the materials.

Creating Your First Study Plan

Navigate to Create Plan

Click the Create Plan button from your dashboard or the “My Plans” page. This will take you to the study plan creation form.

Fill in Basic Information

Provide the essential details about your study plan:
  • Title: A clear, descriptive name for your plan (e.g., “Introduction to Machine Learning”)
  • Course Code: The course identifier (e.g., “CSE101”, “MATH202”)
  • Short Description: A brief one-line summary of what the plan covers
  • Full Description: Optional detailed information about the learning objectives and content
  • Public/Private: Toggle whether other users can discover and use your plan

Add Resources

Build your study plan by adding learning materials. Study Sync supports multiple resource types:YouTube Videos
  • Paste any YouTube video URL
  • The system automatically fetches the title and duration
YouTube Playlists
  • Add an entire playlist at once
  • All videos are added individually for granular progress tracking
PDF Documents
  • Provide the PDF URL
  • Enter the title and number of pages
  • Set estimated minutes per page (default: 3 minutes)
Articles & Blog Posts
  • Paste the article URL
  • Enter the title and estimated reading time in minutes
Google Drive Links
  • Share files stored in Google Drive
  • Optionally add a custom title and time estimate
Custom Links
  • Add any other web resource
  • Must provide a title
  • Optionally add time estimate
Click Add Resource after filling in the details for each item.

Organize Resources

After adding resources, you can:
  • Reorder: Drag and drop resources to arrange them in the optimal learning sequence
  • Remove: Click the trash icon to delete resources you no longer need
  • Preview: See the total time and resource count update in real-time

Save Your Plan

Once you’re satisfied with your study plan:
  • Review all information for accuracy
  • Click Create Study Plan
  • You’ll be redirected to the plan details page

Best Practices

Start Small: Begin with 5-10 resources for your first plan. You can always edit and add more later.
Logical Order: Arrange resources from foundational concepts to advanced topics. Think about how someone new to the subject would learn best.
Accurate Time Estimates: Provide realistic time estimates for PDFs and articles. This helps with scheduling and progress tracking.
Descriptive Titles: Use clear, specific titles that indicate what each resource covers, especially for custom links.
Resources are shared across all plans. If you add a YouTube video that already exists in the system, Study Sync will use the existing resource instead of creating a duplicate.

Managing Visibility

When creating a plan, you can control who can access it:
  • Private Plans: Only you and people you explicitly share with can see and start instances
  • Public Plans: Anyone can discover, view, and start instances of your plan
You can change this setting anytime by editing your plan.

  1. Share with collaborators if you want others to help edit the plan
  2. Start an instance to begin tracking your progress through the materials
  3. Edit anytime to add new resources or update information
