Copying Exported Text

The export panel includes a text area with your exported fleet:

4

Paste elsewhere

Paste the exported text into forums, email, Discord, or your preferred destination.
The text area automatically selects all content when clicked, making copying quick and easy.

Sharing via URL

The most convenient sharing method is the URL-based save:

How URL Saving Works

Utopia automatically encodes your complete fleet into the page URL:
https://utopia.example.com/#[encoded-fleet-data]
The hash (#) portion contains your entire fleet configuration in a compact, encoded format.

Benefits of URL Sharing

Recipients simply visit the URL to instantly load your exact fleet with all ships and upgrades.
No need to manually re-create the fleet from a text list. Everything loads automatically.
As you modify your fleet, the URL updates in real-time. Bookmark the page or copy the URL at any time.
Share URLs via email, chat, forums, social media, or any platform that supports links.
URLs work on any device. Build on desktop, load on mobile, or vice versa.

Sharing a Fleet URL

1

Complete your fleet

Build your fleet with all desired ships and upgrades.
2

Copy the URL

Copy the complete URL from your browser’s address bar (including the # hash portion).
3

Share the URL

Send the URL to other players via your preferred method.
4

Recipients load

Other players paste the URL into their browser and see your fleet instantly.
Make sure to copy the COMPLETE URL including everything after the # symbol. The encoded fleet data is in the hash portion.

Understanding Cost Display

All export formats include SP (Squad Point) costs:

Individual Card Costs

Each card shows its SP cost in brackets:
U.S.S. Enterprise [26]
- Jean-Luc Picard 8 (Captain) [6]
- Data [3]

Free Cards

Some cards are marked as “free” due to special abilities:
  • Captain abilities that reduce costs
  • Free upgrades from ship abilities
  • Promotional “0 SP” cards
Free cards show [0] cost in exports.

Ship Totals

Each ship section ends with its complete cost:
Ship Total: 45 SP
This includes the ship, captain, admiral (if any), and all upgrades.

Fleet Total

The final line shows your complete fleet cost:
Fleet Total: 100 SP
This includes all ships, the fleet resource (if any), and accounts for free upgrades.
Double-check your fleet total against tournament or scenario limits before finalizing your list.

Exporting works identically on mobile devices:
  • Tap inside the export text area to select all
  • Use your device’s copy function
  • Share via your device’s share sheet
  • URLs work the same as desktop

Export Tips and Best Practices

When sharing text exports, also share the fleet URL. This allows others to see your fleet in Utopia with proper card images and hover details.
When saving fleets, use names that describe the strategy or composition: “Borg-Cube-Swarm” or “Federation-Flagship-Build”.
If you iterate on a fleet design, keep version numbers: “Romulan-Fleet-v1”, “Romulan-Fleet-v2”.
Always export and save a fleet before resetting the builder or navigating away.
When using TTS or JSON exports, test the import in your target application to ensure compatibility.

Troubleshooting

URLs Not Working?Make sure you copied the entire URL including the # symbol and everything after it. The fleet data is encoded in the hash fragment.
Text Area Not Selecting: Click directly inside the text area. If auto-select doesn’t work, use Ctrl+A or Cmd+A to select all. Missing Cards on Load: If a loaded fleet is missing cards, those cards may have been removed from the database or renamed. Check the browser console for load errors. JSON Format Issues: Ensure you selected “Fleet Sheet” as the export type, not standard text export.
