The Fleet Builder is the heart of Utopia, allowing you to create, customize, and manage your Star Trek Attack Wing fleets with an intuitive drag-and-drop interface.

Overview

The Fleet Builder interface consists of three main areas:
  • Search Panel (left): Browse and filter available cards
  • Fleet Area (center): Your active fleet with ships and upgrades
  • Export Panel (right): Export and share your fleet builds

Building Your First Fleet

1

Search for a ship

Use the search box at the top of the left panel to find ships by name, or browse through the card list. The search supports filtering by faction, type, and other attributes.
2

Add a ship to your fleet

Click and drag a ship card from the search results into the Fleet Area in the center of the screen. Your ship will appear with all available upgrade slots.
3

Equip a Captain

Search for captains and drag them onto the captain slot of your ship. The captain’s skill value will be displayed.
4

Add upgrades

Search for upgrades (crew, weapons, tech, etc.) and drag them to compatible upgrade slots on your ships. The interface will only allow compatible upgrades in each slot.
The fleet builder automatically updates your fleet’s total SP (Squad Points) cost as you add cards. Watch the total at the bottom to stay within your game’s point limit.

Search and Filter Options

Type any card name in the search box to quickly find specific cards. The search is case-insensitive and matches partial names.

  • Uncheck sets you don’t own to hide those cards
  • “Temporarily show all cards” checkbox overrides your expansion filter
  • Export/Import your expansion settings to share between devices

Adjusting Search Results Size

Use the chevron buttons (< >) in the Advanced panel to adjust the width of the search results area:
  • Click left arrow to narrow the search panel (see more fleet details)
  • Click right arrow to widen the search panel (see more cards at once)

Working with Your Fleet

Managing Ships

Adding Multiple Ships: Drag as many ships as you need into your fleet area. Each ship appears as a separate column with its own upgrade slots. Removing Ships: Click and drag a ship or upgrade card to the “Remove From Fleet” drop zone that appears when dragging. Reordering Cards: You can move upgrades between ships by dragging them from one ship to another, as long as the target ship has a compatible slot.

Upgrade Slots

Each ship displays its available upgrade slots based on:
  • Ship class and stats
  • Captain equipped (captains may add/remove slots)
  • Other upgrades that modify available slots
Slot Compatibility: The fleet builder enforces upgrade slot rules:
  • Crew upgrades only fit in crew slots
  • Weapon upgrades only fit in weapon slots
  • Tech upgrades only fit in tech slots
  • And so on…
Special Slots:
  • Admiral: One admiral per fleet (placed on flagship)
  • Ambassador: One ambassador per fleet
  • Resource: Fleet-wide resource cards
  • Starship Construction: Starfleet-specific construction cards
Unique cards (marked with a special symbol) can only appear once in your fleet. The builder will prevent you from adding duplicate unique cards.

Tracking Fleet Cost

Your fleet’s total SP cost is displayed prominently:
  • Per Ship Total: Each ship shows its individual cost including all upgrades
  • Fleet Total: The complete fleet cost appears at the bottom
  • Free Upgrades: Some upgrades are marked as “free” and don’t count toward your total

Hiding Empty Slots

For a cleaner view, you can hide empty upgrade slots on your ships. This is especially useful when:
  • Taking screenshots of your fleet
  • Focusing on equipped upgrades only
  • Viewing loaded fleets

Saving Your Fleet

Your fleet is automatically saved to your browser’s URL as you build. Simply bookmark the page or copy the URL to save your fleet.
The URL contains your complete fleet configuration encoded in the hash. You can:
  • Share the URL with other players
  • Bookmark it for quick access
  • Use it on any device with Utopia

Loading a Fleet

To load a saved fleet:
  1. Navigate to the Fleet Builder
  2. Paste your saved URL into the browser
  3. Your fleet will automatically load with all ships and upgrades
When loading a fleet from a URL, empty slots are automatically hidden for a cleaner presentation.

Mobile Support

Utopia’s fleet builder is optimized for mobile devices:
  • Touch-friendly drag and drop
  • Responsive layout adapts to screen size
  • All features available on tablets and phones

Fleet Building Tips

Focus your fleet around a specific faction, era, or synergy strategy. Cards with matching factions and abilities often work better together.
Don’t spend all your points on expensive ships. Leave room for quality upgrades that can make cheaper ships competitive.
Ships and captains that provide extra actions or tokens are often more valuable than raw stat increases.
Remember that unique ships, captains, and upgrades can only appear once per fleet. Plan accordingly!
Master the advanced filters to quickly find cards that complement your strategy. Filter by faction and type simultaneously for best results.

Keyboard Shortcuts

The fleet builder supports keyboard input for faster fleet building:
  • Type directly into the search box (no need to click first)
  • Use tab to navigate between interface elements
