The AI Chatbot is your personal mental wellness companion, designed to provide a safe space for reflection, conversation, and emotional support. The chatbot uses artificial intelligence to engage with you in meaningful conversations about your mental health and daily experiences.

Overview

The chat feature allows you to:
  • Have private conversations with an AI assistant trained in mental wellness support
  • Create multiple chat sessions for different topics or time periods
  • Review past conversations at any time
  • Get thoughtful, personalized responses to your thoughts and questions
The AI chatbot is designed to provide support and reflection, but it is not a replacement for professional mental health care. If you’re experiencing a crisis, please reach out to a qualified mental health professional.

Starting a New Chat

Navigate to the Chat Page

Open the side menu and select the Chat option. You’ll see a greeting with your name when no chat is selected.

Type Your First Message

In the message input field at the bottom, type your question or share what’s on your mind. The placeholder text says “Pregunta lo que quieras” (Ask whatever you want).

Send and Create Chat

Click the send button (arrow icon). The system will automatically create a new chat with a title based on the current date and your first message.
Chat titles are automatically generated using the format: [Date] - [First 50 characters of your message]

Wait for AI Response

After sending your message, you’ll see a loading indicator (”…”) while the AI processes your message and generates a thoughtful response. This typically takes a few seconds.

Sending Messages

Once you’re in an active chat:
  1. Type your message in the text area at the bottom of the screen
  2. The text area expands automatically as you type longer messages
  3. Click the send button (arrow icon) or press enter to send
  4. Your message appears immediately in the conversation thread
  5. The AI responds within a few seconds with personalized feedback
The send button is disabled while the AI is generating a response to prevent sending multiple messages at once. Wait for the AI to finish responding before sending your next message.

Managing Your Chats

Viewing Chat History

All your chats are stored and can be accessed from the side menu:
  • Chat list: Shows all your previous conversations with their titles
  • Select a chat: Click on any chat in the list to view the full conversation history
  • Automatic updates: Messages are automatically refreshed every 2 seconds to show new AI responses

Deleting Chats

You can delete any chat from your history:
  1. Find the chat in the side menu chat list
  2. Click the delete option for that chat
  3. The chat and all its messages will be permanently removed
Deleting a chat is permanent and cannot be undone. Make sure you want to remove the conversation before confirming deletion.

Understanding the Chat Interface

Message Types

The chat displays two types of messages:
  • Your messages: Appear on one side of the conversation, clearly marked as from you
  • AI messages: Appear on the opposite side with an AI avatar icon, showing the assistant’s responses

Real-time Updates

The chat interface includes several features for a smooth experience:
  • Auto-scroll: The chat automatically scrolls to show the latest message
  • Polling: New messages are fetched every 2 seconds to keep conversations current
  • Loading indicators: Visual feedback shows when the AI is thinking and composing a response
  • Visibility optimization: Polling pauses when you switch to another tab to save resources

Be Open and Honest

The AI chatbot works best when you share your genuine thoughts and feelings. There’s no judgment here.

Give Context

If you’re discussing something specific, provide relevant details to help the AI understand your situation better.

One Topic Per Chat

Consider creating separate chats for different topics or time periods to keep conversations organized.

Review Past Conversations

Periodically review your chat history to reflect on your progress and patterns over time.

Privacy and Security

Your conversations are private and stored securely:
  • Messages are associated with your user account
  • Each chat is isolated and accessible only to you
  • All communication with the AI service uses secure connections
  • Your personal information (name, age, email) is included in requests to personalize AI responses
The AI uses your profile information (name, age) to provide more personalized and contextually appropriate responses.

Troubleshooting

Messages Not Sending

If your messages aren’t sending:
  • Check your internet connection
  • Ensure the AI isn’t still responding to a previous message (wait for the loading indicator to disappear)
  • Try refreshing the page if the issue persists

Chat Not Loading

If a chat doesn’t load:
  • Verify you’re logged in to your account
  • Try selecting a different chat and then returning to the desired one
  • Refresh the page to reload your chat history

AI Taking Too Long

If the AI response is taking longer than expected:
  • Wait up to 30 seconds for complex responses
  • Check your internet connection
  • If the issue persists, try sending your message again in a new chat
