Coastal biomes in Origen serve as transitional zones between land and ocean, creating dramatic shorelines and unique terrain features.

Coastal Biome Types

Towering cliffs biome, only found at the bigger coasts. The biome has a mostly flat area, which is held by large white pillars that reach deep into the water.Key Features:
  • Only generates at larger coastlines
  • Towering coastal cliffs
  • Flat plateau surface area
  • Large white stone pillars extending into ocean
  • Dramatic coastal views

Coastal Generation

The identification and placement of coastal biomes involve utilizing the boundary between ocean and land cells. The coastal areas are divided into discrete units using a distinct seed, separate from the main biome distribution.

Coastal Width Categories

Coastal zones in Origen are classified into three categories:
  • None - Ocean directly borders land biomes with no coastal transition
  • Narrow - Small coastal transition zones
  • Wide - Significantly wider coastal areas where biomes like Marine Monoliths can generate
Not all coastlines will have coastal biomes. Some areas feature direct transitions from land to ocean biomes, creating variety in shoreline types.

Coastal Mechanics

Coastal biomes are determined by:
  1. Detecting boundaries between land and ocean cells
  2. Applying a separate seed for coastal division
  3. Classifying coastal width (none/narrow/wide)
  4. Placing appropriate coastal biomes based on width
This system ensures that coastal areas feel natural while maintaining the distinct character of both land and ocean biomes.
